Pilot News: Michael Chiklis Goes for Uncensored Laughs As Star of CBS Comedy

Michael Chiklis will be Vince Uncensored in a CBS half-hour comedy pilot produced by Conan O’Brien, Deadline reports.

Penned by veteran sitcom scribe Phoef Sutton (Cheers), Vince revolves around a man who, in the wake of a life-changing experience, adopts a more honest approach to life, work and family.

An Emmy winner for his work on The Shield, Chiklis was heavily courted this pilot season, particularly by CBS. Given the staggered production timetables for drama versus comedy pilots, going for laughs was the best bet given his time commitment to ABC’s No Ordinary Family, says Deadline.

Vince Uncensored is in second position to bubble show No Ordinary Family, which struck its sets on the Disney lot this week to make room for a Producers Guild conference.

  • Hmm. “Struck its sets” sounds ominous. I suspect that would weigh into the renew-or-not decision. “Well, y’know, if everything was still up, I’d consider it… but since everything’s already down, and it would cost money to put them back up, fuhgetaboutit!”

    • Yeah, not a good sign for a bubble show

    • Yeah, striking down the sets is pretty much a death sentence. Sad, because after a slightly rough start the show got really good.

  • I hope Julie Benz finds a new show. First she’s fired from Dexter, now her new show is (probably) cancelled. :-(

  • Glad to see Chiklis finding other work beyond NOF, since it looks like NOF is dead.

  • No Ordinary Family should have been on ABC Family… It was too childish for network. It’s too much like “Heroes” for the Nickelodeon crowd.
That being said, it had great potential to improve with some sharper writing and character development.

Side Note: Who decided to cast the kid that plays JJ Powell. He is too ugly for television and he cant act. Is that some executive’s son or something?

  • when the stars of a show start signing deals with other shows you pretty much know its over.

Sucks because they have really found a groove with this show, but i’ve always thought that it should be on ABC Family
