Awkward Season 2 Preview: Broken Hearts, New Romances And Many Mortifying Moments!

Jenna Hamilton SEASON 2 TEASE | “She's still dealing with the fact that her mom wrote the letter,” previews Ashley Rickards. “Did it come from a good place? Why did her mother write that letter? How does she process it?” Meanwhile, things are better -- but not necessarily less complicated -- in the romance department. Newly minted couple Jake and Jenna are “in a great place. It's a very healthy relationship. He's not keeping her a secret.” But there's still that hottie elephant in the room. “There's plenty of Jenna and Matty stuff coming up,” Rickards assures us. “It's more interesting and multifaceted to see them in this new relationship and struggling to be in that friends zone.” Then there's the question of whether to tell Jake the truth, and what happens if they do. “There's just a lot at stake,” adds Rickards. MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | “Something that's said over the loudspeaker that gets the whole school talking,” teases the actress. TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | “Right now, for personal reasons, I'm Team Jake because I was really, really under the weather one day and Brett Davern came and made me soup,” explains Rickards. “If I had to choose solely between the characters – by the way, Beau [Mirchoff] was filming, and I'm sure he would have come and made me soup too – I'd be Team Switzerland.”

As Season 2 progresses and Matty changes and matures and is more honest with his feelings and upfront about things, maybe I'll be Team Matty.”

Lacey Hamilton SEASON 2 TEASE | There will be big ramifications for Lacey, who wrote the devastating carefrontation letter to Jenna. For one, it'll leave mother and daughter “in a pretty precarious place,” says Nikki Deloach. “You see Jenna have to recover from the letter, and Lacey too. How long will it take Jenna? How will she tell Lacey? Does she tell Lacey? How does Lacey find out that Jenna knows? All of those things are going to be revealed.” As the two attempt to repair their broken bond, “you're going to find out a lot about why Lacey is the way she is.” MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | It's not super funny, but “dealing with the letter is pretty awkward,” says Deloach. “Imagine if you're a mom and you write that letter to your daughter. … To be found out puts you in a very awkward situation not just with your daughter, but with your husband.” TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | “Definitely Team Jake has treated my daughter a lot better than Team Matty,” muses the actress. “But it's too soon to tell where my heart as Lacey lies when it comes to those two boys.” As for Deloach's personal preference, “Brett Davern gave me a really sweet compliment this morning, so I'm going to go with Team Jake,” she answers with a laugh.

Lacey Hamilton

I think at first, she thought it was kind of OK, and she was like, 'Ha-ha, this is funny. But whatever. She'll come around.' And when Lissa finally doesn't, [Sadie goes], 'Can you stop it? I've forgiven you for slamming the door in my face, so can you just get over it?'” MOST AWKWARD MOMENT | “Probably taking Jenna to church camp” after Lissa sees her ex's new girlfriend in the House of Christ, shares Grammer. “She has a lot of awkward moments there where she talks about her and Jake's relationship, and it gets awkward for Jenna because she's like, 'Oh, great, here's this information that I'm just now finding out.'” TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | “Team Matty. All the way! I'm such a Team Matty fan. I'm kind of biased because last season, clearly Jake was my boyfriend so I didn't want her to break up with him. While everyone else at the party is celebrating, Ming doesn't even get to stay for the big moment. “I'm in the car with my dad for New Year's.” TEAM MATTY OR JAKE? | Lu can't bring herself to choose a side – “It's so tough.... Maybe high school would have been a good time to have a little Dylan McKay in my life. So I don't know. Now I'm a little bit torn." We totally get it.
