Netflix Orders The Corrections Adaptation Starring Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep is bringing an acclaimed novel to life on Netflix.

The streamer has handed a straight-to-series order to a limited series adaptation of "The Corrections," TVLine has learned, with Streep headlining the cast. The series, based on the Jonathan Franzen bestseller, "is a sharply comic portrait of a Midwestern family whose three unmoored adult siblings desperately resist their mother's wish for one last Christmas together — each undone by the delusional ambitions that were supposed to save them from becoming their parents." Streep will star as matriarch Enid.

The series will be written and adapted by book author Franzen, with Cord Jefferson ("American Fiction") serving as director. Streep's casting was first announced two years ago when the series was still in development.

Published in September 2001, "The Corrections" — which won the National Book Award — was previously developed as an HBO series, with Noah Baumbach directing and Ewan McGregor, Dianne Wiest, and Maggie Gyllenhaal leading the cast. But HBO ultimately decided not to pick up the pilot to series.

Streep is a legendary film actress with three Oscar wins under her belt and credits spanning from "Kramer vs. Kramer" and "The Deer Hunter" to "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Mamma Mia!" But she's moved to the small screen in recent years with roles on "Big Little Lies" and "Only Murders in the Building."
