Christiane Amanpour To Leave CNN — Find Out When
CNN's Christiane Amanpour has announced she is leaving the network.
On Monday, the journalist said she would exit the cable news channel in June 2027.
"After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!" Amanpour said via statement.
As she noted, Amanpour has been with the network for more than four decades, many of those years as a foreign correspondent. She currently holds the title of chief international anchor and hosts "Amanpour," an interview series on CNN International.
That program will end in May 2027. She will continue reporting for CNN until June. Her PBS series, "Amanpour & Co." will come to an end this December.
Christiane Amanpour's distinguished career at CNN
Christiane Amanpour started at CNN's Atlanta headquarters in 1983. She worked on the international assignment desk and eventually was promoted to reporter, based at the network's New York bureau, and then international correspondent.
She has conducted interviews with world leaders and reported on harrowing natural disasters, including the 2004 tsunami in South Asia and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Her many journalism awards include 16 Emmys and four Peabody Awards, and she has been inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame.
In a newsroom memo Monday, CNN chairman Mark Thompson wrote: "Christiane has thought carefully about this decision, and she and I have been discussing it for some months... Like so many CNNers who will hear the news today, I'm very sorry to see her go, but I've come to accept that this is the right time for her, both personally and professionally."
In 2021, Amanpour announced on the air that she was undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer. The illness returned in 2025, she said on an episode of the "Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story" podcast, adding that it was being "very well managed" and that she felt well.
