On a side note, Sam does not pick up on subtleties too well. Oh, Sam, this is why we love you. AWW! | Mercedes arrives home to a candlelit apartment where Sam tells her that he can live without sex but not without her. Swoon! THE FORECAST | Samcedes is getting steamy and we expect them to get even hotter – slowly, though!

He has controlled his desire for Hayley for far too long, but not anymore! OUCH! | OK, so maybe for a little while longer. When Elijah hides and sees Hayley laughing with Jackson, he decides to back off because he just wants her to be happy. THE FORECAST | It doesn’t look like Elijah will be carrying Hayley off into the sunset anytime soon.

AWWW | Per Stefan's speech in this week's episode, we know the only reason Damon can't be Elena's friend is because he's still in love with her. THE FORECAST | Unclear. Damon may still have feelings for his ex, but a future Season 5 episode will find Stefan discussing Elena'srelationship with his brother on a "philosophical" level -- and that could tip the scale either way.

THE COUPLE | The Vampire Diaries' Damon and Elena
