JD Vance Named Donald Trump's Vice President Pick On Day 1 Of RNC Convention
JD Vance joined Donald Trump's campaign Monday as the former president's running mate in the 2024 presidential election, according to a report from The New York Times.
The vice presidential nominee will join Fox News' Sean Hannity for his first interview tonight at 9/8c.
Vance is a Republican senator from Ohio. He served in the Marine Corps during the Iraq War and later graduated from The Ohio State University and Yale Law School. His 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, was a New York Times Bestseller and was the basis for the 2020 feature film of the same name. He has worked as a corporate lawyer and a venture capitalist before getting elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022.
In a Charlie Rose interview in 2016, Vance said he was someone who would never vote for Trump. He addressed that and several other criticisms of the 45th president in a June interview with Fox News' Bret Baier. "Look, I was wrong about Donald Trump. I didn't think he was gonna be a good president," Vance said at the time. "He was a great president. And it's one of the reasons why I'm working so hard to make sure he gets a second term. I think you should – when you're wrong about something – you should change your mind and be honest with people about that fact."
Trump's former vice president was Mike Pence, who served alongside the former president in the White House from 2017 to 2021.
The VP announcement came hours ahead of the start of the 2024 Republican National Convention — two days after an assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a Butler, Pa., campaign rally.
The RNC is being held at the Fiserv Forum and Wisconsin Center District in Milwaukee, Wis., from July 15-18. The 2024 Democratic National Convention will follow next month at Chicago's United Center, from Aug. 19-22.
