Suits LA First Look: Arrowverse Alums Matt Letscher And Stephen Amell Are Troubled Father And Son (Exclusive)
Suits LA has some serious daddy issues, much like Harvey Specter had mommy issues on the original USA Network drama.
Matt Letscher will be introduced to viewers as the father of Stephen Amell's character, Ted Black, during this Sunday's series premiere (NBC, 9/8c), and TVLine has an exclusive first look at the pair's tense dynamic.
Ted's dad is described as someone who is "powerful, emotionally unavailable [and] rules through fear and intimidation," per the official character description. "Ted's father has alienated himself from Ted because of the way he treated Ted's brother Eddie (guest star Carson A. Egan). Though Ted's father has committed unforgivable acts, he still wants to have a relationship with Ted, even though Ted wants nothing to do with him."
"Harvey had a difficult relationship with his mother, and Ted has a difficult relationship with his father, just because I think people's relationships with their parents inform their world so much, and it's a lot easier to have a character that has a flawed relationship with their parents than a positive one," creator Aaron Korsh tells TVLine. "So Ted's dad is somewhat of a narcissist, and he sort of left their family high and dry when they were young, and [Ted] always sort of resents his father for that. And then when Ted went to law school and started becoming successful, all of a sudden, he was good enough for his father's attention, and he doesn't love that."

The casting of Ted's father also marks an Arrowverse reunion of sorts for Amell (who played Green Arrow/Oliver Queen) and Letscher (who portrayed Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash across multiple shows). Korsh was not aware of that fun fact when Letscher came in to read for another character, but he did know one thing: Letscher had to be a part of the new NBC series.
"I didn't think he was right for the [other role], but...I requested that he read for the part of Ted's father because I thought he was such a great actor," Korsh shares. "And he came in, and he knocked it out of the park. [But] we had to age him up a little bit because he's playing Ted's dad in the past, and they're pretty close in age."
