The Amazing Race Slams Two Teams With A U-Turn — But Did The Setback End Their Games?

As Jeff and Pops said in Wednesday's episode of The Amazing Race, "It's not personal, it's business." So why are Scott and Lori so disgruntled?

Well, that's because they were one of two teams who were in for the shock of the season (thus far) when Phil surprised everyone with a live double U-Turn vote in Indonesia. Joining Scott and Lori as the highest vote-getters were Jonathan and Ana, who at least half-expected to catch some strays thanks to last week's Driver's Seat twist. And since both teams received four votes each (out of nine), they were the ones tasked with completing both Detours in Leg 5 of the race.

Before the leg began, Scott confirmed to the group that they were not "playing" anybody, despite the perception that he and his wife had a dynamic social game. They just bring positivity to everything they do, he said. And while they were racing in a reality TV competition series, the husband/wife duo were offended and hurt by the results of the vote. "I know it's a game and a competition, but some of these teams are our friends... they're not my friends anymore. There's no way," Lori said. Ouch — shots fired from all sides!

So what tasks were the teams saddled with? In the first Detour, duos had to deliver 60 coconuts via bike to a beach cafe along the shoreline. For the other challenge, teams had to attach five species of coral onto a framed structure, then snorkel out to sea and plant it on the ocean floor.

Jonathan and Ana had a tough time trying to figure out how to arrange the coral. And once they finally completed that task, exhaustion and stress took over as they dumped their bike and first stack of coconuts. Lori and Scott, meanwhile, crushed the coconut task and with more level heads, started to attack the coral. But they failed. Again and again and again. Luckily for them, Jonathan decided to take the longest water break in the history of The Amazing Race, much to the detriment of his very patient and saintly wife. Ana continued being super supportive, championing her struggling partner and... he asked her to be quiet. Because he has a little headache. Insert an infinity amount of shrug emojis here.

Little did both U-Turned teams know, but a Roadblock awaited them immediately after, which forced teams to select a surfboard and paddle out into the ocean to find another board with a matching decal. It was no big feat for Brett and Mark who were the first to arrive to Phil's mat — and they won $10,000 for their efforts. Carson and Jack arrived shortly after, coming in second.

But back in the ocean, Jonathan decided to take a floating siesta on his surf board, which gave Scott a fighting chance to get the job done. Unsurprisingly, both U-Turned teams came in 8th and 9th place, but unfortunately for Scott and Lori, one of this season's most dominating teams, their race officially came to an end in Bali when they arrived in last place.

Could Scott and Lori have won the season if they weren't U-Turned? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
