Why Raife Hastings From The Terminal List Looks So Familiar

Season 2 of "The Terminal List," which returned this week by dropping all eight episodes on Prime Video, brings into the foreground the hardcore character Raife Hastings. If Hastings seems oddly familiar, it might be because you're a fan of "Game of Thrones."

In Season 7 of the hit HBO fantasy series, Hastings' actor, Tom Hopper, played Dickon Tarly, the handsomer and braver brother of fan favorite Samwell Tarly (John Bradley). Hopper took over the role from Season 6 actor Freddie Stroma. Dickon didn't get the happiest of "Game of Thrones" endings, but he was likable when he was around and at least got to die on a memorable note. "If you've got to go, being burned by a dragon is a pretty good way to go out," Hopper told Elle at the time. "... When I read that, I thought, 'I'll take that. I'll take that all day long.'"

If "GoT" isn't where you recognize Hopper from, it's possible you know him from the hit Netflix series "The Umbrella Academy," where he played Luther Hargreeves, otherwise known as Number One or Spaceboy. "The Umbrella Academy" may not have quite reached the sheer scale of popularity of "Game of Thrones" (in fact, Netflix ended "The Umbrella Academy" with a shortened Season 4), but leading a Netflix series was still a remarkably high-profile gig for Hopper.

Tom Hopper has also starred in Black Sails and Merlin

Before "The Umbrella Academy," Tom Hopper acted in the Starz historical drama "Black Sails" from 2014 to 2017. And before that, he starred in the British fantasy-adventure series "Merlin" from 2010 to 2012.

He also played an oft-forgotten minor character in the Season 5 premiere of "Doctor Who" — a friend and neighbor of companion Amy Pond. His one and only scene involved the Doctor walking in on him while he was watching adult content on his computer. It was a bit of a thankless role, but his gigs would only grow more substantial from there.

"When I started out, it was simply about getting a job, then another, and somehow there's been some nice upward trajectory from there," Hopper told DAMAN in a 2026 interview. "I don't think I could have imagined the worlds I have been able to be a part of. I've been very lucky. The goal was always to keep working with good people on things that excite me, and that hasn't changed."
