The Terminal List Season 2's 4-Year Delay Explained By Author Jack Carr
"The Terminal List" released its entire second season on Prime Video on October 21, 2026, over four years after its first season dropped in 2022. By the standards of the modern streaming era, this is a major gap between seasons; it's only really beaten by the many delays for "Euphoria" Season 3.
Jack Carr, the author of the books which "The Terminal List" is adapting, explained to People why the new season took so long. The big factor, he revealed, was the 2023 Hollywood strikes. "Even though it was about seven months with writers and actors, it really had about a year as far as delay goes," Carr said.
The Writers Guild of America strike began on May 2, 2023 and ended on September 26, 2023, while the SAG-AFTRA strike began July 14 the same year and ended December 5. Both strikes were some of the longest in Hollywood history, and they likely had an impact on many of your favorite shows of the time. But Jack Carr went on to explain that the strikes weren't the only reason for the four year delay.
Season 2 was also delayed because Chris Pratt is a very busy actor
Jack Carr explained to People that the show's star, Chris Pratt, had filming commitments that were "scheduled two years out," but Carr said he hoped this wouldn't be as much of a problem going forward. For the timeline for Season 3's release, Carr said, "Hopefully, it's not going to be as long."
Carr also noted that Season 2 is more sprawling in scale compared to the first, with the show filming all around the world. All that time and effort involved, however, only brought the cast and crew closer together. "We got to be such good friends over the last few years, particularly this season," Carr said. "We all just got to know each other even better than we did before."
For fans frustrated with the Season 2 delay, it helps that Season 1 didn't end on a major cliffhanger. Unlike the agonizingly unresolved finale of "Severance" Season 1, the end of Season 1 of "The Terminal List" left things open for a sequel but didn't demand one. So far, "The Terminal List" may have fallen victim to the frustrating trend of TV shows taking forever to produce each new season, but at least it made sure to give fans some closure before the delay.
