Golden Globes: Comedian Jo Koy Tapped To Host 2024 Ceremony
On the heels of Jerrod Carmichael's turn at the mic, the Golden Globes have tapped another breakout comedian — this time Jo Koy — to emcee the 2024 ceremony.
The January broadcast will mark Koy's first time hosting a major awards show.
"I've stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special," Koy said in a statement on Thursday. "I'm so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year. This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!" (Editor's note: "I love you!")
"We are thrilled to have Jo host the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards and bring his infectious energy and relatable humor to kick off Hollywood's award season," added Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne. "We can't wait to see what he has in store for the stars in the room and a global audience. We know Jo is bringing his A-game."
TV fans might recognize Koy best as a recurring panelist on Chelsea Handler's since-ended late-night series Chelsea Lately, but he has also headlined a number of stand-up comedy specials on Comedy Central and Netflix. His most recent one, Live from the Los Angeles Forum, was released on Netflix in 2022. On the scripted side, Koy's TV credits include episodes of Mr. Iglesias and Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens.
The 81st Golden Globe Awards will air live Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at 8/7c on CBS. HBO's Succession led the TV pack when nominations were announced earlier this month, amassing nine total nods for the drama's final season. FX/Hulu's The Bear and Hulu's Only Murders in the Building followed with five nominations each.
