Casting News: Colbert On Elsbeth, Justina Machado Joins Matlock And More

Stephen Colbert has found a new late-night gig... in CBS primetime.

The Late Show host is set to guest-star in an upcoming episode of Elsbeth, on which he'll appear as the host of fictitious late-night program Way Late With Scotty Bristol. (Vulture was first to report the news.)

Elsbeth Season 3 kicks off on a special night — Sunday, Oct. 12 at 9:30/8:30c — before settling into its regular Thursdays-at-10 pm time slot on Oct. 16. An airdate for Colbert's episode has not yet been announced.

In other casting news...

* Matlock Season 2 has enlisted Justina Machado (One Day at a Time) to recur as Eva, "a formidable, smart and ambitious attorney and Jacobson Moore managing partner Howard 'Senior' Markston's fourth ex-wife — the one who made him swear off marriage," per Deadline. "Eva runs Jacobson Moore's Miami office and she arrives in New York for an emergency meeting... which she uses to her advantage."

* Ransom Canyon has elevated Casey W. Johnson (aka Kit Russell) to series regular ahead of Season 2, Deadline reports.

* Ronnie Rowe Jr. (Star Trek: Discovery) has been cast opposite Tracy Spiridakos in the forthcoming USA Network drama Anna Pigeon. According to Deadline, he'll play Frederick Stanton, "an FBI agent and charismatic wanderer who chases crimes through national parks and keeps his cool, except when it comes to ranger Anna Pigeon."
