Jon Hamm To Star In MGM+ Drama American Hostage From EP Shawn Ryan

Jon Hamm is about to get even busier: The Emmy winner has signed on to star in American Hostage, a new anthology series for MGM+ based on the acclaimed podcast, TVLine has learned.

A psychological thriller set in the 1970s and based on a true story, American Hostage stars Hamm as Indianapolis radio reporter Fred Heckman, "who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program," per the official description.

Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Night Agent) will serve as co-creator and executive producer of the eight-episode series, along with Eileen Myers (Masters of Sex).

"The combination of prolific producers Shawn Ryan and Eileen Myers, a singular talent like Jon Hamm, and our partners at Sony Pictures Television, is a match made in MGM+ heaven," MGM+ head Michael Wright said in a statement. "This is a fascinating story about real people engaged in a real-time life-or-death struggle to keep a desperate hostage situation from spinning out of control, and I can't think of a more gifted actor on whom to center the story than Jon."

Hamm — who shot to fame as Mad Men's Don Draper — has been fully booked as of late: He currently headlines Apple TV+'s Your Friends & Neighbors and joined Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore in the freshman season of Paramount+'s Landman. He also provides the lead voice on Fox's animated comedy Grimsburg (which is firmly on the bubble), along with recent stints on Fargo, The Morning Show and Good Omens.
