Law & Order Adds Star Trek: Discovery's David Ajala As New Detective In Season 25
Det. Riley, meet your new partner?
David Ajala (Star Trek: Discovery) has joined Law & Order as a series regular, TVLine has learned. Though the character name is still under wraps, Ajala's character will be a detective who works with Det. Vincent Riley (played by Reid Scott).
When Season 25 premieres Thursday (8/7c, NBC), Riley's former co-worker — Det. Jalen Shaw — will no longer be part of the precinct, thanks to portrayer Mehcad Brooks' departure earlier this year. "We touch on it in the first episode. You'll know why he's gone," showrunner Rick Eid told TVLine in early September.
Eid also previewed that Riley wouldn't be hit too hard, emotionally, by his partner's departure. "These guys in real life bounce around, they partner up, people go, and, as we'll explain, it's not like Shaw's off to Hong Kong or something," he explained. "If they want to go get a beer [off-camera] some night, they can."
Ajala played Cleveland Booker in Star Trek: Discovery and will be seen in Netflix's upcoming The Woman in Cabin 10. His other TV credits include Supergirl, Nightflyers, Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, Falling Water, Black Box, Doctor Who and Law & Order: UK.
