Casting News: Matthew Rhys Joins Presumed Innocent, Bold & Beautiful's Gay Couple And More

Matthew Rhys is heading back into the courtroom.

The Emmy-winning actor, who recently wrapped up a two-season run as the star of HBO's Perry Mason, has joined Rachel Brosnahan in the Season 2 cast of Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent, the streamer announced on Thursday.

Plot details have been kept under wraps so far, but it sounds like Rhys may be playing the accused murderer being defended by a young attorney played by Brosnahan. Season 2 will feature an all-new cast and story and will be based on Jo Murray's upcoming novel Dissection of a Murder.

In the novel, "when Leila Reynolds is handed her first murder case, she's shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge," per the publisher's official synopsis. "This shouldn't be the kind of case she's leading; it's way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her."

Rhys starred alongside Keri Russell as Soviet spy Philip Jennings on FX's The Americans, winning the Emmy for best lead actor in a drama in 2018. His other TV credits include Brothers & Sisters and Girls; he's next set to co-star with Claire Danes in the Netflix drama The Beast in Me, debuting in November.
