Pride And Prejudice: Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden And Olivia Colman To Lead Netflix's Miniseries Adaptation

Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden and Olivia Colman have bewitched the Netflix casting directors, body and soul.

The trio is set to lead the streamer's forthcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation, a six-part limited-series take on Jane Austen's beloved novel, TVLine has confirmed.

Corrin and Colman, who previously collaborated on Netflix's The Crown, will respectively play Elizabeth Bennet and Mrs. Bennet in the project. Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) — who was reported earlier this week to be circling the role of Mr. Darcy — will indeed play the male lead character.

Dolly Alderton (Peacock's Everything I Know About Love) will write the Netflix miniseries, described as a "faithful, classic adaptation" of Austen's novel. Euros Lyn (Heartstopper, Doctor Who) will direct. Production on the series begins in the U.K. later this year.

"Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it," Alderton said in a statement on Thursday. "Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr. Darcy."

Added Corrin: "Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly's phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can't wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again."

Pride and Prejudice has been adapted for the screen several times, most memorably as a 1995 TV series (starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth as Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy) and a 2005 film (starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen).
