Grotesquerie: Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance And More Offer Tantalizingly Scary Scoops About Ryan Murphy's Latest Horror Show

You've seen the trailer. You've likely read the synopsis. And, if you're anything like us, you... still don't have a real clear understanding of what awaits in Ryan Murphy's new horror series, Grotesquerie.

And while we can't promise that our interviews with the show's stars at the New York City premiere Monday will give you a good sense of exactly what's going on in Murphy's latest work, we can say that the videos below will give you decidedly disturbing (but in a fun way!) little snapshots of what to expect.

"There are seasons of American Horror [Story]... that are very blunt and bloody, and there are seasons that are more psychological. We're both," series co-creator Jon Robin Baitz tells TVLine. "It's a very dark show, there's no question of it. But it asks a question of what it means to be alive and human and moral, and what happened to empathy?"

He adds: "Even though it's this thriller and it's insane — it's absolutely crazy — it still has this sort of Dostoyevskian gravitas to it." He laughs. "That's the most pretentious thing I've ever said!"

The 10-episode series kicks off, as the official description puts it, after "a series of heinous crimes have
unsettled a small community. Detective Lois Tryon (played by Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story's Niecy Nash-Betts) feels these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone — or something — is taunting her. At home, Lois grapples with a strained relationship with her daughter (Being Mary Jane's Raven Goodwin), a husband (Lovecraft Country's Courtney B. Vance) in long-term hospital care and her own inner demons. With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan (Elsbeth's Micaela Diamond), a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian."

The synopsis continues: "Sister Megan, with her own difficult past, has seen the worst of humanity, yet she still believes in its capacity for good. Lois, on the other hand, fears the world is succumbing to evil. As Lois and Sister Megan string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers."

The cast also includes Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital), Lesley Manville (The Crown) and NFL star Travis Kelce in his acting debut.

Ahead of the show's debut Wednesday at 10/9c on FX, please allow the cast (and a cast member's stand-in — we'll explain in a minute) to offer some enticing/horrifying teases. First up, in the video at the top of this post, Vance compares Grotesquerie to his previous horror outing Lovecraft Country and gives us a hint about how Grotesquerie's story will unfold. (Psst... go watch it, then come back down here.)

Then, Nash-Betts lets us in on her character's unexpected partnership with Diamond's Sister Megan. (Press PLAY on the video below, then keep scrolling.)

Speaking of Diamond, in the video below, she let us in on what Kelce was up to in between takes:

You're probably wondering if Kelce walked the carpet: He did not. But his mom, Donna Kelce, was there to field questions about her son, her son on a TV show, and whether her son's very famous girlfriend had any thoughts about her son on a TV show. Press PLAY on the video below to hear what Mama Kelce had to say.

And in case you'd prefer to watch the videos all together, we've got that for you right here!
