Who Should Succeed MobLand's Conrad? Pierce Brosnan Weighs In
Conrad Harrigan, patriarch of Paramount+'s MobLand, has built a criminal empire that — if Fisk doesn't get to it first — could very likely outlive him. Which raises a salient point: Which of Conrad's children is best suited to run the family business in his stead?
Let's just go ahead and ignore the cliffhanger that ended last week's episode, in which Conrad's son, Brendan, and daughter, Seraphina, were in the middle of a shootout organized by their father's biggest rival. Let's assume for now that all Harrigan offspring are on the table — not that it really mattered when we asked series star Pierce Brosnan.
If he had to name a successor tomorrow? "Harry," Brosnan said instantly, skipping over all of Conrad and Maeve's children (and Seraphina, his love child) in favor of the family fixer played by Tom Hardy.
"Kevin is just, he's not on the ticket. He's not strong enough. He's not cunning enough," he added, citing the character played by Paddy Considine. Wife Maeve (played by Helen Mirren), Brendan (Daniel Betts), Seraphina (Mandeep Dhillon) and grandson Eddie (Anson Boone) don't even get a mention. "I can't trust anyone, and we're at a very crucial and critical point when the curtain goes up with this family. And then those cracks begin to appear more and more as the episodes go on."
Still, it makes sense. Harry "is like a son. I treat him like a son," Brosnan said. "He is my son, in some regards." As viewers have seen throughout the series so far, Harry has, indeed, engaged in all manner of dubious behavior on behalf of his Irish gangster boss, perpetrating violence and manipulation that even some of the Harrigans wouldn't do. (Just wait until you see what he pulls off in this Sunday's hour.) His actions therefore have earned him a high resting point in Conrad's esteem.
"Conrad, he's a pretty mangled fellow," Brosnan said. "He comes from an abusive family, and that perpetuates itself within this family. He doesn't trust many people."
We, of course, shared Brosnan's choice with Hardy, who quickly co-signed. "I don't think [Harry] beats around the bush. He's very honest, as regards situational awareness and getting ahead of a problem and what potential and viable options there are for you to choose... and the possible outcomes of that," he said. "But he doesn't influence an agenda, more just presents options — which, you know, are filtered through what's best for Conrad."
MobLand streams new episodes Sundays on Paramount+.
