Ever the enthusiast, Ray is "extremely psyched" about his new mission, Routh says. "He's the most gung-ho of anybody on this journey... They can not only save the world, but save time, save the future. So it's even bigger. He's all about that." And while Ray and Professor Stein have "a history" and are both excited about the idea of time travel, the ship's two scientific-minded heads are not buddy-buddy. Meanwhile, "Ray is learning a lot...about himself" from criminals Captain Cold and Heat Wave, of all people, the actor reveals. "Maybe he doesn't know everything about everything, and that there's value in having these guys be a part of the team."

The latest incarnation of the former League of Assassins member is "just so lost and haunted, like an assassin or a samurai without a master," executive producer Phil Klemmer says. "When we find her on our show, she has gone to the ends of the Earth, just trying to find herself or disappear. She's just such a tragic character. And even though she's badass, her stories, for me, are all about her trying to find human connection and get back what she lost when she was resurrected." Legends' Sara also gets to shed some of her Arrow darkness and experience "a levity that [she] never got to live in before," Lotz shares. "There's a new attitude that she gets to have where it's like, 'Whatever goes!'"

The time master has "his own motivations" for assembling the superhero group, which will be revealed, Darvill shares. Still, Vandal Savage's reign of power is reason enough to act, so Rip is "wanting to solve a problem and feels like he has the right plan to do that," Darvill adds. "He expects the series to last one episode. He expects to get them, go back in time and sort it out and be done with it, go home and live a happy life." Yeahhh, that is so not gonna happen.

Captain Cold... and Sara Lance? The unlikely twosome definitely show off some chemistry in the pilot as the beginnings of "a crush" on Leonard's part is born, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg describes. "He likes her because she is dangerous. He doesn't meet too many people who he respects, and he certainly respects her. ... There's a couple of relationship things that happen along the way that are probably going to be a little unexpected."

The lughead didn't get much screentime on The Flash, but Kreisberg believes Purcell's performance on Legends of Tomorrow gives him "a real opportunity to become a fan favorite," the EP says. "The biggest surprise for me that I wasn't necessarily anticipating is how funny Dominic is." The Prison Break vet's pyromaniac Mick is "the one who exasperates everyone" on the team, Kreisberg describes. "He's a bull in a china shop. Even if he's with Snart or Sara, two characters he's most like, you never know what he's going to do."

The professor has no qualms about taking off to another time — especially since, in theory, they'll only be gone for a blink of an eye. "He's like a kid with his enthusiasm for the mysteries of the world," Garber says. "So he is willing to just fly blind and then pay the consequences, and that's what he's doing now in this. He's settling in a situation where he's not home, he's separated [from his wife]... But the fact that they are on a mission is, for him, the most important thing."

The other half of Firestorm isn't quite as comfortable in his new surroundings as his counterpart. "He definitely finds the whole time travel thing weird," Drameh says. The lad also has trouble fitting in with the ragtag group that Rip has assembled. The mix of personalities leads to "a lot of butting heads," Drameh previews. "And there's a real love-hate relationship with Stein and Jax, so they definitely have their moments where they're at each other's throats a bit."

Don't expect Kendra and her winged lover to pick up where they left off in their past lives. "This version of Hawkgirl is a version Hawkman hasn't quite seen before, because she really is not falling for it and they bicker quite a lot," Renee describes. "But you can tell even through their fighting that there's an underlying passion, that even though they're butting heads, they're always drawn together in that way."

Now that Carter and his reincarnated love, Kendra, can be together, the stakes are higher than ever. "He's fought for that so hard," Hentschel explains. "They fought for that. And so he's on eggshells this time a little bit."

The series will explore "the mechanics" of the Big Bad's immortality "because before you can stop his power, you have to understand from where it arrived," Klemmer previews. "We will go back to the origin story of ancient Egypt, to understand how Vandal was originally affected. There's always a loophole with anybody's powers. There's always an Achilles heel, and he's no different." As for whether Savage has any other abilities aside from being immortal, Klemmer would only say, "Yes."
