Golden Globes 2018: Best And Worst Moments
golden-globes-2018-frances-mcdormand
BEST: FRANCES' CAMERA WORK
NBC's camera operator just wanted to get a reaction from Frances McDormand, whose costar Sam Rockwell had just won for his work in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. But McDormand had no time for that; the moment a camera appeared in her face, she shooed it away, wanting only to get a clear glimpse of her colleague accepting his award. Stars, they're just like us!

BEST: DIFFICULT JOKES
Sure, Difficult People was cancelled back in November. But Billy Eichner still got to make one last joke at Kevin Spacey's expense, with an assist from Seth Meyers: "Call Me By Your Name is nominated for Best Motion Picture. It's a gay coming-of-age film. Said Kevin Spacey, 'You lost me at 'of age.”" Billy Epstein and Julie Kessler would be so proud.

WORST: RECYCLED JOKES
Seth Meyers' monologue was chock full of timely, razor-sharp zingers related to Hollywood's sexual harassment problem and the current political climate. In fact, his remark that President Trump likely hates the name of the Golden Globes' voting body — the Hollywood Foreign Press, three words of which POTUS isn't fond — was a huge hit... at last year's ceremony, where at least three celebrities made the joke first.

WEIRDEST: JENNIFER GETS AN EARFUL
Jennifer Aniston had already sweetly informed us that Carol Burnett was her idol... but then took things a step further (and slightly more awkward) when she asked to tug on Burnett's ear, right before the winner of Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy TV Series was announced. It was a cute nod to Burnett's eponymous variety show — and the moment led to Burnett's hilarious use of the word "kinky" (twice!) — but it was strangely timed all the same.

BEST: STRONG WOMEN, STRONG SPEECHES
Given the sea of black dresses and suits on display in the Beverly Hilton, Hollywood's movement against sexual harassment was already a cornerstone of this year's Globes. But Elisabeth Moss and Laura Dern took that passion a step further in their acceptance speeches, delivering two of the evening's most eloquent, powerful arguments for women and their place in the entertainment industry.
golden-globes-2018-sterling-k-brown
BEST: STERLING'S EQUAL TIME
Amy Poehler may have reclaimed her wine earlier in the broadcast, but Sterling K. Brown successfully reclaimed his time, after the Emmys so rudely interrupted his speech back in September. This time, Brown got to thank everyone on his list, and there were no violins involved.
golden-globes-2018-mariah-carey
WORST: NO SPILLED TEA
Mariah Carey makes a public appearance just one week into 2018, and doesn't poke fun at her own request for hot tea on New Year's Eve? Color us disappointed. (OK, OK, she tweeted about it. But imagine the laughs she would have gotten in that hotel ballroom!)
golden-globes-2018-kelly-clarkson-keith-urban
BEST: KELLY AND KEITH'S DUET
They only sang six words together — "And the Golden Globe goes to..." — but we'd like to officially submit Kelly Clarkson and Keith Urban's brief, perfectly harmonized duet for Grammy consideration.
golden-globes-2018-tommy-wiseau-james-franco
BEST: TOMMY WISEAU'S MIC MOMENT
Even if you've never seen the cult phenomenon The Room — and if you haven't, what are you waiting for? — you were probably tickled by the sight of the real-life Tommy Wiseau attempting to grab the microphone away from James Franco, who won a Globe for his portrayal of Wiseau in The Disaster Artist. It was meta, it was goofy, and it's tearing us apart, Lisa!
golden-globes-2018-foreign-language-film
WORST: FOREIGN FUNNY LANGUAGE BARRIER
While accepting the award for Best Foreign Language Film, In the Fade writer-director Fatih Akin began his speech with a nod to distributer Warner Bros., followed by an awkward, old-fashioned joke: "When you see a cop, warn a brother." Ha. Ha. Needless to say, it fell flat.
golden-globes-2018-amy-sherman-palladino
BEST: TEAM PALLADINO GETS ITS DUE
Fans of Gilmore Girls and Bunheads have been waiting a long time to see Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino acknowledged at a major Hollywood awards show. Thanks to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's win for Best Comedy Series — and many years of witty banter, strong female characters and jaunty hats — that moment finally came. We can only hope Amy eventually found that cheese backstage.
golden-globes-2018-oprah
BEST: EVERYTHING OPRAH DID
It had to happen sometime: Oprah's ecstatic announcement that "everyone gets a ca-aaar!" was finally usurped by another of Ms. Winfrey's speeches. Accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award, Oprah inspired just about everyone with her sheer Oprah-ness — but, surprisingly, didn't close by announcing her candidacy for president. (Admit it: You were kind of expecting her to do that.)
golden-globes-2018-natalie-portman
BEST: PORTMAN STRIKES BACK
Ron Howard: "We're here to present the award for Best Director."
Natalie Portman: "And here are the all-male nominees."
As we speak, the editors of The Guinness Book of World Records are adding this moment under "Loudest Mic Drop."
golden-globes-2018-jessica-chastain
WORST: JESSICA CHASTAIN'S 'SURE' THING
All together now: Sur-sha Ronan. Sur-sha Ronan. Sur-sha Ronan. (Looking at you, Jessica Chastain.)
