Last Man Standing Cast Changes Over The Years
Last Man Standing may very well hold the record for most cast changes in a sitcom, having swapped out seven (!) actors over the course of its nine-season run. (Remember when Nick Jonas played Ryan?!)
Scroll down to revisit all the times the Tim Allen comedy decided to go in a new, um, creative direction...
Boyd Baxter
BOYD BAXTER
Technically, there have been four (!) Boyds. In Season 1, the part was filled by twins Evan and Luke Kruntchev. They were replaced in Season 2 by Flynn Morrison, who played Boyd for the duration of Last Man's ABC run. When the series was revived by Fox in 2018, the character was recast yet again, with Jet Jurgensmeyer. The character was last seen in Season 8, Episode 4, "You've Got Male (or Female)." (Why'd he vanish?!?)
Kristin Baxter
KRISTIN BAXTER
Alexandra Krosney, who played the eldest daughter of Tim Allen's Mike and Nancy Travis' Vanessa in Season 1, was let go from the show for "creative reasons" ahead of Season 2. She was succeeded by Amanda Fuller.
TVLine reported exclusively that Krosney was considered for a final-season cameo, but the Powers That Be decided against it — find out why.
Mandy Baxter
MANDY BAXTER
Last Man Standing's much-ballyhooed Mandy switcheroo — which saw Molly Ephraim (Seasons 1-6) replaced by Molly McCook (Seasons 7-9) — went over like a lead balloon. But the show's higher-ups anticipated — and were prepared for — the blowback.
"We fully expected [the backlash]," exec producer Kevin Abbott said in October 2018. "You don't take a character played by an actress that's beloved and suddenly switch them out. I'm glad they missed Molly Ephraim; that's a good thing. And they're going to go through the same process we did in casting.
"When Molly McCook walked in, we thought, 'That's not going to work. Physically that's not going to work,'" he recalled. "Then we thought, 'She's the best actress, let's go with it.'"
TVLine reported exclusively that Ephraim was considered for a final-season cameo, but the Powers That Be decided against it — more on that here.
Ryan Vogelson
RYAN VOGELSON
Nick Jonas originated the role of Boyd's dad in Season 1, Episode 10, "Last Christmas Standing." When the series decided to make Ryan a regular character in Season 2, the Jonas brother was replaced by Jordan Masterson.
Carol Larabee
CAROL LARABEE
No, Chuck didn't remarry. But when he renewed his vows to Carol in Season 7, the character was no longer played by Erika Alexander (The Cosby Show, Living Single). She was replaced by Tisha Campbell (Martin, My Wife and Kids).
