SEASON 2, EPISODE 18: "THE WEDDING"

The next time we see Old Randall and Adult Tess, it's a different day, and they're back at what looks like her office. But this time, their mood is notably subdued. "It's time to go see her, Tess," he says.

The social worker we've watched all episode, who we've thought was about to introduce this boy to his new foster parents Beth and Randall...

... turns out to be a grown-up Tess, aka our first signal that the show has skipped ahead a couple of years. "Even after you move out, you will have dinner with me once a week near your fancy office, and you will tell me everything," Randall tells a young Tess earlier in the episode, and it looks like his prediction came true!

"Me, neither," he admits.

"I'm not ready," she replies sadly.

While she's busy, Old Randall pulls out his cell phone and calls...

Adult Tess tells her dad she's going to use the ladies' room "before we head over." Old Randall says he'll wait.

Next, we see a bunch of ballerinas dancing... which isn't much in the way of a clue, but we thought the visual was too pretty not to include. Wait, who's that watching the women dance?

"I promised I'd bring it," Beth adds before leaving, giving the students some positive feedback on her way out: "Nice adjustments, dancers." (For what it's worth, Susan Kelechi Watson gently but firmly shut us down when we tried to get her to speculate about Beth's future.)

When Adult Tess returns from the bathroom, Old Randall asks, "You let your mom know we're on the way?" Adult Tess says, "I'll call her from the car." Neither looks any happier than they did earlier. 

SEASON 3, EPISODE 1: "NINE BUCKS"

... Old Toby! Old Toby is sitting up in bed in a room we haven't seen before, and as the scene goes on, we can tell that he's no longer wearing his wedding ring. Hmm... "Hey Randall," he says wearily.

"Yeah, I don't know if I should," Old Toby responds. But when Old Randall reminds his brother-in-law that "She wants you to be there, Tobe," ol' Toblerone sighs and says, "Alright, I'll see you soon." They hang up. (And yes, the "she" is Rebecca, as we learn in Episode 9.)

SEASON 3, EPISODE 1: "NINE BUCKS"

Please note that the poster hanging behind Old Toby's bed is the same one that's in the bedroom he and Kate share in the present-day storyline.

"Hey boss, Tess called. Says they're on the way," the woman says. "OK, yeah. We're all going to see Randall's mother," Beth says without much enthusiasm. (FYI: The show's executive producers have confirmed that she's talking about Rebecca, and not by some twist of fate, Randall's biological mother.) "Oh, did you bring the Pin the Tail on the Donkey from my office?"

SEASON 3, EPISODE 9: "THE BEGINNING IS THE END IS THE BEGINNING"

It's Beth! She's alive, as promised! As she peers down on what seems like a ballet class, a woman approaches her.

She did! (EP Isaac Aptaker tells TVLine, "There's definitely a significance to that game. The full significance of it we have not totally explored or revealed on the show yet. But yes, it's something that was in their childhood growing up that we've seen them playing at the birthday party before. So it's not a new, out-of-nowhere game for the family. It's something that's part of the fabric of their childhood.")

The next time we see Beth, she's making coffee somewhere.

Tess arrives and hugs her mother, while Old Randall hangs back.

"Hey baby," he says. "Hey," she responds. Then they kiss. If you need more reassurance that they're still together in the future...

We get a wider shot of the home they're in, which seems quite posh. But whose is it?

"Man, Kevin's house is huge," Old Toby says after he arrives, solving that mini-mystery.

After the (former?) brothers-in-law embrace...

... Old Toby pulls out a seemingly incongruous item. "I got the sidewalk chalk," he says, adding, "I just talked to Jack, and they're on their way." (Who is "they?" And does "they" include Kate? We don't yet know, and show boss Isaac Aptaker isn't saying.)

When a young boy walks through the kitchen, we learn that the kid is Kevin's son. Kevin isn't around, the boy informs Old Randall, because he realized they didn't have any food and ran out to get some. "Classic Kevin," Randall replies.

"I'm going to go say hi," Old Randall announces. "Where is—"

"He's already in there," Beth answers, but we're not sure who they're talking about.

Like, Randall is still walking to wherever he's going.

Randall enters a room and stands at the foot of a hospital bed. "It's Randall. Your son, Randall," he says. (Though if you're thinking the reminder is because Rebecca is suffering from dementia, the show's EPs say that's not necessarily the case she is.)

We see Rebecca's hands move slightly.

Then we get our first glimpse of Older Rebecca, with white hair and a lot more wrinkles.

When Randall looks to the man sitting beside the bed, he says, "Hey, Nicky."

And then we see Jack's brother, who'd previously asked all of the Pearsons to stay out of his life, sitting by Rebecca's side.

Then Rebecca seems to look directly at her son, but she says nothing.

"Hey brother-in-law. Everybody's in with Rebecca," Beth says, giving us a clue that this part of the flash-forward pretty much immediately follows what we've seen so far. "I'll help you with the food."

In a previous episode, Toby had noted that Kevin had gone out for food. Here, he brings it home in what appear to be reusable bags with a generic fork, knife and spoon — or is that a futuristic logo we just don't yet recognize? — on the side.

An aging Kevin drives a car up to the house Jack always wanted to build for himself and Rebecca. From the previous glimpses of this flash-forward, we recognize it as Kevin's home, where everyone has gathered to be with Rebecca.

And if you somehow missed that fact, Jack's original sketch — framed and hanging in the entryway — drives it home.

After presumably leaving the food in the kitchen, Kevin makes his way to his mother's room...

... where he and Randall exchange an ambiguous look.

... and when they hug, we notice that Nicky is wearing a wedding ring! (Might this be an indicator of his current relationship to Rebecca? Hmm.)

We get another revelation when Kevin approaches Rebecca's bed...

... and we see he's wearing a wedding band, as well.

The somber mood in Rebecca's room isn't broken by the next few visitors:

Kevin's son, whom we met earlier in the flash-forward...

... and his daughter, whom we learn in the episode is the son's twin. And Madison is their mother! But is she also Kevin's wife? Series creator Dan Fogelman addresses that here.

Kevin eventually winds up at the foot of Rebecca's bed, next to Randall. Are the two still estranged, like they are/will be at the end of Season 4/start of Season 5?

Kevin puts a comforting hand on Randall's back, so... maybe?

SEASON 5, EPISODE 9: 'THE RIDE'

Near the start of this episode, we meet this group of doctors-in-training.

After a few eyerolls, she's out. "I have to go," she tells the same colleague. "Cover for me."

One of them is very bored with the fact that they're about to start a rotation in the hospital's Labor and Delivery floor. "It's babies. It's not that complicated," she tells a colleague.

She waits outside the hospital... but for what or whom?

A car pulls up...

... and the doctor-to-be climbs in. There's some good-natured ribbing between her and the driver.

Then the driver gives her a Sophie teething toy. "I know it's early, and I know you're not telling anyone. But I had to get you something," the driver says. Looks like the doctor-to-be is also a mama-to-be! (Side note: Did you notice the screen in the car, which is the first indicator we have that this might be taking place in the future?)

"It's not going to stay a secret long if you keep touching your belly like that," the driver says, teasing.

It's Kevin's cabin, and Tess comes out to meet them. Does that mean...?

Yes! As Randall also exits the house, we realize that...

... a grown-up Deja is the doctor-to-be, and a grown-up Annie was behind the wheel.

As they head inside, another car arrives. We don't see who's in it, but Randall and Deja wave.

Randall asks his daughter how the drive was. She says it was fine: "It always goes by faster than you think."

As they embrace, we can see that she's wearing a diamond ring and a wedding band.
