TVLine Shares Its 2018 Wish List

This Is Us - Season 2

Dave Nemetz's Wish:

That This Is Us stops dragging it out and just tells us how Jack died already... and soon. The mystery surrounding the Pearson dad's demise is hanging over the entire show like a black cloud, and distracting from the show's best elements. Let's find out and move on — to happier times for the whole family, hopefully.

tv-wish-list-supergirl

Vlada Gelman's Wish:

That Supergirl finds its joy again. It makes sense that the show would take a more emotional, serious turn with Kara and Alex both nursing broken hearts. But there aren't even any humorous subplots — whatever happened to Winn's girlfriend Lyra? — to break up all the heavy drama.

The CW 'Everwood' 15th Anniversary Reunion, TCA Summer Press Tour, Los Angeles, USA - 02 Aug 2017

Vlada Gelman's Wish:

That some smart TV executive, who was paying attention to the popularity of the Everwood reunion panel at TCA press tour, calls up creator Greg Berlanti for a revival.

tv-wish-list-the-bold-type

Vlada Gelman's Wish:

That The Bold Type's showrunner transition is a smooth one that delivers the same intelligent, empowered show I fell in love with in Season 1.

wish-list-master-of-none

Ryan Schwartz's Wish:

That Aziz Ansari comes to his senses and realizes that Master of None absolutely has to return for at least one more season — especially after that ambiguous ending.

wish-list-orange-is-the-new-black

Ryan Schwartz's Wish:

That Orange Is the New Black — which closed Season 5 by loading many of the Litchfield inmates onto buses to be taken elsewhere — is serious about scaling back the size of its cast. It was getting too big for its own good.

wish-list-roseanne-revival

Ryan Schwartz's Wish:

That the Roseanne revival exceeds my wildest expectations and lives beyond the nine episodes ABC ordered for midseason.

Episode 305

Ryan Schwartz's Wish:

That The Affair turns its focus back to Noah and Allison and manages to recover from that disastrous third season. (If the show's willing to forget that Juliette ever existed, so am I!)

CLARK GREGG, MING-NA WEN, ELIZABETH HENSTRIDGE, CHLOE BENNET, IAIN DE CAESTECKER, NATALIA CORDOVA-BUCKLEY, HENRY SIMMONS

Matt Webb Mitovich's Wish:

That Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Season 5 storyline — set in outer space in a future where the Earth has been destroyed — ultimately, in some tiiiiiiny way, ties into the May 4th release date of The Avengers: Infinity War, which features Thanos as its Big Bad and counts the Guardians of the Galaxy among its heroes.

American Gods Season 1 2017

Kimberly Roots' Wish:

That Starz's American Gods is able to thrive and deliver a stunning Season 2, despite the departure of series co-creators/showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green.

wish-list-exorcist

Kimberly Roots' Wish:

That The Exorcist gets a third season — somewhere! — if for no other reason than so we can find out exactly what hellish danger Marcus was alerted to (thanks, God!) at the end of the season finale.

wish-list-nashville

Kimberly Roots' Wish:

That Nashville packs its final run with as much music as possible, then turns in a series finale that rewards the fans who've stuck with the drama through six seasons (and two networks).

wish-list-netflix-rewind-button

Matt Webb Mitovich's Wish:

That an always-handy 10- or 30-second "rewind" button be featured on every streaming video player out there, be it on a consumer site or for press screeners.

wish-list-american-horror-story

Michael Ausiello's Wish:

That Ryan Murphy shake up the American Horror franchise in Season 8 with an entirely new cast.

wish-list-big-bang-theory

Michael Ausiello's Wish:

That The Big Bang Theory lets Sheldon and Amy tie the knot this spring vs. dragging this thus-far-entertaining nuptial arc into next season.

wish-list-deadwood

Michael Ausiello's Wish:

That HBO sticks to the rumored schedule and commences production on that long-awaited Deadwood movie next fall.

wish-list-goldbergs

Michael Ausiello's Wish:

That The Goldbergs devotes an entire episode to the ultra competitive and high-stakes '80s phenomenon known as Smurf collecting.

wish-list-freaky-friday

Andy Swift's Wish:

That Disney Channel's adaptation of Freaky Friday: The Musical is even half as good as the stellar production that premiered in Washington, D.C., in 2016. (If you're not familiar, get thee to Apple Music or Spotify and start streaming the original cast album. Right now!)

wish-list-great-news

Andy Swift's Wish:

That NBC's Great News experiences an out-of-nowhere ratings surge and is renewed for 10 more seasons.

wish-list-originals

Andy Swift's Wish:

That the Powers That Be (i.e. The CW, Warner Bros. TV and creator Julie Plec) decide to move forward with a Hope-centric spinoff of The Originals. I'm not ready to leave the TVD-verse just yet.

wish-list-snl-broad-city

Andy Swift's Wish:

That Broad City's Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer are finally asked to host an episode of Saturday Night Live together. (If this wish sounds familiar, it's because I also wished for it last year — and I will continue to wish for it until it happens.)

12 Monkeys - Season 3

Vlada Gelman's Wish:

That the criminally underrated and underwatched 12 Monkeys wraps up its final season with a happy ending for Cassie and Cole. (They so deserve it.)

Film and Television

Dave Nemetz's Wish:

That TV resists the urge to make a Cheers reboot. I know, I know: Wishing for TV networks to show restraint in remaking old classics is like wishing for a million wishes. It ain't gonna happen. But somehow, the all-time great NBC sitcom has miraculously escaped TV's reboot boom thus far, and I'd like to keep it that way for the next 12 months, thank you. No bearded mixologists. No goofy hipsters named Norm. Just... no.

tv-wish-list-the-americans

Dave Nemetz's Wish:

That The Americans goes out with a bang. Season 5 of FX's Cold War drama was a sluggish disappointment, so I'm hoping the sixth and final season — debuting in 2018 — rewards our patience by wrapping up the Jennings' spy story in satisfying fashion.

COLIN O'DONOGHUE, JOSH DALLAS, REBECCA MADER, GINNIFER GOODWIN

Matt Webb Mitovich's Wish:

That with Jared Gilmore, Jennifer Morrison, Emilie de Ravin and now Rebecca Mader having already put in encores, Once Upon a Time's Season 7 reboot will next welcome back Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas (if only for an episode).
