Chicago Med Boss Previews How Natalie Will React To Tragic Turn Of Events: 'She's Feeling A Bit Cursed'

Wednesday's Chicago Med ended on a surprising cliffhanger, which saw Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) setting off for Chicago after her son Owen was shot during a getaway in the Windy City with Will.

Though we saw our first glimpse this season of the former Gaffney doc, who exited the series in the Season 6 finale, as she received the news from Goodwin over the phone, showrunner Allen MacDonald says Natalie will be front and center in next week's episode.

MacDonald tells TVLine that Natalie arrives in Chicago feeling "especially fraught," even "a bit cursed." Fans will recall that when we first met the pediatrician back in the pilot, she was pregnant with Owen, and her husband had just died. Now, in the wake of another tragedy, Natalie is reminded of her past trauma; she is, after all, 20 weeks pregnant.

"To Natalie, it feels like every time she gets pregnant, something really bad happens to someone close to her," he added. "She's really frightened that Owen will also die."

MacDonald added that there is even "some concern about her pregnancy and the stress this sudden turn of events has put on her emotionally." (Is he suggesting another #OneChicago miscarriage?!)

Amid all of the pediatrician's concern for her son and worry over her early pregnancy, MacDonald teases some animosity brewing between Natalie and Will.

"There's genuine anger on Natalie's part toward Will," he says. Per MacDonald, Natalie can't understand what the pair was even doing at the hospital if they were visiting Chicago for a Bears game. Plus, the couple's tension will only escalate when they disagree over the best course of action for Owen's treatment.

But how long could something like this keep Will and Natalie around in Chicago? MacDonald doesn't share much when it comes to the tenure of their stay, but says, "I don't think that they'll be popping back up to Seattle any time soon."

Will Own be able to recover from his injuries? And, despite the circumstances, are you looking forward to seeing Natalie back at Gaffney in next week's Chicago Med? Hit the comments with your thoughts!
