Poker Face EP Answers Our Burning Question: Why Does Charlie Confront Murderers Alone And Unarmed?

We always enjoy watching Charlie Cale crack a case on Poker Face... but we worry for her safety, too.

Each week on the Natasha Lyonne-led murder mystery (Season 2 is currently streaming on Peacock), the human lie detector played by Lyonne manages to solve a murder and bring the prime suspect to justice. But in doing so, Charlie often puts herself in harm's way, confronting the killer and explaining how she figured out they did it in great detail... all by herself, without any weapon or backup to protect her. (This week, she came face-to-face with a murderous baseball pitcher played by guest star Simon Rex and didn't hesitate to accuse him.)

So why is Charlie so reckless when delivering her verdict each week? "I think it's a feature of her character," showrunner Tony Tost explains to TVLine. "The metaphor we use is: She's a dog with a bone. She cares so much about what happened and about getting the truth out that I think, like a lot of us, she acts without thinking... It's just an aspect of her character that she's willing to risk her own wellbeing in order to get the truth out and get some kind of justice for someone."

Do you think Charlie needs to protect herself better, Poker Face fans? Tell us in the comments, and give us your thoughts on Season 2 so far while you're at it.
