The Office Alum Oscar Nuñez Explains Why Oscar Is Back On The Paper, And How He's Changed Since Dunder Mifflin — Watch Video

Peacock's The Office spinoff The Paper is about to deliver its first issue — and one familiar name is on the masthead.

The new series (debuting this Thursday) sees the documentary film crew that followed Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch on The Office turn its attention to a struggling local newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. That means a new cast of characters, except for one: Oscar Nuñez, who played accountant Oscar on The Office, reprises his role on The Paper.

"He hasn't changed all that much," Nuñez tells TVLine in the video below. "It's the same fella, just a couple of years after. He's in a new town, he's trying to make new friends." Oscar doesn't love being followed around by cameras again, but "he's pragmatic," Nuñez points out, so he puts up with it — for now.

Oscar was the right Office character to bring over, co-creator Greg Daniels explains, because "he didn't change much during the nine years of The Office." Oscar was "on the private side" and "had his dignity," and "he was kind of the same guy at the end that he was at the beginning."

But with the introduction of ambitious new editor-in-chief Ned Sampson, played by Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar "is being induced by an inspirational boss," and "he doesn't have much experience with an inspirational boss." (Ouch, Michael Scott, catching strays!) "He's being induced to take more risks with his career for a larger purpose, and I think it's getting him more excited about work." An excited Oscar? We'll believe that when we see it.
