The Afterparty's Most Likely Suspects: Who Do You Think Killed Xavier?

ANIQ

Our boy Aniq may be Detective Danner's prime suspect, but the escape room designer seems far too loveable and innocent to have offed a guy. Sure, he had reason to want revenge against Xavier. Not only was the actor and pop star consistently getting in the way of what was supposed to be a magical reconnection with Zoe, but his beef with Xavier was also the catalyst for him losing his college scholarship back in high school. The fact that Aniq was seen angrily storming off to find Xavier just moments before the singer's death doesn't bode well for him either. Could he have done the unthinkable during his accidentally drugged blackout? We hate to say it, but Danner's right. Due to his lapses in memory and time, poor Aniq's gotta remain firmly at the top of this suspects list. However, we're going to go out on a limb and guess that he's innocent.

BRETT

Brett's a bully and a jerk, but is he a killer? Sure, he threatened to end anyone who touched his ex-wife Zoe, but would he make good on that intimidation tactic? It's clear he has a total anger problem and he's a loose cannon, but wouldn't it be a little too on the nose for Brett to be our culprit? We don't believe a single word of his story (racing after Aniq, Chelsea and Yasper to retrieve a stuffed koala?), and dude was caught trying to sneak away from the crime scene. Suspicious, yes. Most Likely to Murder? We aren't fully convinced.

YASPER

Could a former member of Ska-pe Diem have permanently silenced his one-time bandmate? That depends. Just how jealous is Yasper of Xavier's newfound fame and fortune? That said, he's a smooth talker, so it's possible he could be lying to Detective Danner, and if he is, he's been super convincing. From a narrative perspective, Yasper being the guilty party might pack the most punch. Could the death of the musician-turned-actor help Yasper launch his own music career? Make him a social media influencer? Maybe! He did seem awfully thirsty and motivated to get Xavier's sample on his new track... say it ain't so, Yas!

CHELSEA

Just like with Brett's claims, we don't believe a word of Chelsea's story either. According to everyone else's recollection, Chelsea was totally smashed the night of the reunion, which makes her quite the unreliable narrator. While she doesn't exude murderer vibes, she was in attendance strictly to seek revenge for what happened at the St. Patrick's Day party back in high school. (Xavier let everyone think he slept with her, when she totally denied his advances. But it still ruined her reputation and cost her a lot of her friendships.) That night sent her down a dark, ostracized path filled with alcohol abuse and shame. Was that reason enough for her to possibly push Xavier off a balcony?

WALT

Constantly disrespected, forgotten and ignored... even at his own party! We might not know too much about Walt the wallflower, but he's been tossed to the side so many times that maybe he finally snapped. (How dare Yasper cut off his verse in "Two Shots"! Just kidding. More Yasper, always and forever, please!) But let's think about this. How could someone who's constantly fading into the background make a name for himself? By killing one of the world's biggest stars, that's how! With two episodes to go in the series, maybe Walt is hiding something from us that has yet to be revealed. If we're really looking hard at all of the possible suspects, Walt's name absolutely deserves to be in the mix.

ZOE

You've got to be suspicious of someone as universally likable as Zoe. (Hey, she even mended fences with Chelsea!) Despite her animated tale of multiple selves, her squeaky cleanness and general demeanor hardly resemble a killer instinct. Sure, Xavier hit on her like the pathetic dog that he was (that cartoon tongue was a thing of nightmares), but that's not reason enough to push the guy to his doom. Then again, as Zoe said herself: "Tell the story a certain way, and any one of us could've done this."

SOMEONE ELSE?

Could Ned have possibly committed the crime against Xavier as punishment for the Chelsea rumor he believed to be true? What about this presumably missing Jennifer No. 3 — was that milk carton in the "Zoe" episode a mere Easter egg or something much more important? And what's the deal with Indigo? If someone else is in your crosshairs, be sure to vote in our poll below, then argue your case in the Comments!

WHO DO YOU THINK KILLED XAVIER? VOTE IN OUR POLL HERE

Who knew a joyous event like a drunken Afterparty could turn out to be such a deadly affair?

We're only two episodes away from the Apple TV+ series' big reveal (the finale begins streaming Friday, March 4), but while we wait for the killer to reveal him- or herself, let's get out our notepads and magnifying glasses, and play a little detective, shall we?

For the uninitiated, the eight-episode series follows a group of former classmates as they all get reacquainted at their high school reunion. Included in the bunch are Aniq (Sam Richardson), a lovable yet slightly misunderstood guy who quickly becomes the No. 1 suspect; Zoe (Zoë Chao), his former crush; Zoe's ex-husband and ruffian Brett (Ike Barinholtz); Chelsea (Ilana Glazer), a party girl seeking revenge; and Yasper (Ben Schwartz), Aniq's best friend. Past dramas quickly resurface for the group, and snowball even further once Xavier (Dave Franco), their rich and famous pop star alum, is pushed off a balcony at an afterparty held at his mansion.

Everyone seems to have motive, but whodunit?

Below, we revisit the prime suspects to try and suss out the guilty party. Review the evidence below, then vote in our poll to let us know who you think is the killer. And if you have any other possible perpetrators on your list, be sure to hit the comments to sell your case!
