Best And Worst Current TV Moms From The Mandalorian, Lucifer, This Is Us, Riverdale, Pose And More Shows

With Mother's Day just around the corner this Sunday — if you haven't bought your card yet, bookmark this page and come back to it when you return from Target! — TVLine is celebrating those characters who exhibit serious Mom Goals.

Our roundup of the best current mamas on television features lovingly supportive and strong maternal figures from Lucifer, This Is Us, Superman & Lois and black-ish. We're also highlighting the wonderful work of several solo moms who are doing the job of two parents on shows such as Bob Hearts Abishola, Evil and The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. And of course, one doesn't need to share blood with their "kids" to be a mother figure, as a certain Pose matriarch proves.

But not every small-screen mom is as caring and nurturing as the women (and one Mandalorian Frog Lady) we've singled out. Our list also includes a handful of terrible mothers — we're looking at you, Penelope Blossom! — to balance the scales and remind us of what it takes to be a truly good parent.

Review our selections for the Best and Worst Current TV Moms below, then hit the comments to share your own picks! And if you're so inclined, leave them a Mother's Day message!

BEST: Katherine, A Million Little Things

Katherine withstood the hardship of her husband Eddie's alcoholism and drug abuse. She pushed past the serious betrayal of his affair — and subsequent fathering of a child — with one of their mutual friends. And she did it all so their son, Theo, would have a stable home life. But after Eddie's most recent sobriety relapse, she painfully decided that ending the marriage would be the best thing for Theo in the long run. Doing the harder thing when you realize the hard thing isn't actually great for your kid? That's pro-level mom-ing right there.

BEST: Rainbow, black-ish

Rocking her natural curls and stylish frocks while holding down a full-time job as an anesthesiologist and instilling in her kids the importance of being their most authentic selves, Rainbow is a huge reason why the Johnsons are so well-adjusted. She's a supportive presence in her children's lives, often railing against her husband Dre's totalitarian style of parenting while showing them that being perfect is overrated. She always keeps it real, and we just really love her.

BEST: Linda, Bob's Burgers

The only thing Tina, Gene and Louise's Energizer Bunny of a mom loves more than her porcelain babies is her actual babies. Well, that and wine. Anyway, Linda doesn't just dote on her and Bob's kids, she gets them, quirks and all. And from butt fetishes to rabbit ears, there are a lot of quirks!

WORST: Katie, American Housewife

We don't doubt that down deep, the Machiavellian mother of three loves her kids — even honorary ones Cooper and Franklin. It's just that her brand of love is so tough, it often makes us wonder whether she likes them. Like, at all. Not for nothin', but we've had childhood bullies with a softer touch.

BEST: Abishola, Bob Hearts Abishola

No one dishes tough love better than Dele's mom, who is determined to see her teenage son through to medical school. Lately, she's showed a softer side, allowing him to pursue his dance dreams on the rare occasion he's not studying to maintain a 4.0.

BEST: Jada, The Chi

In addition to being a hard-working nurse and a support system for her adult son Emmett, Jada is a source of comfort and information for the show's young women as well — particularly when they find themselves in agonizing positions, such as when Keisha confided in her about her post-rape pregnancy at the end of Season 3.

BEST: June, The Handmaid's Tale

The woman repeatedly risked her life to secure freedom for one daughter and refused to leave a brutal, misogynistic regime without her other daughter. Literally everything she does — and all of the torture that results — is in service to these two girls (and all the others like them).

WORST: Louise, Behind Her Eyes

Louise was a perfectly pleasant mom to Adam before, well, you-know-who took over her body. After that, the new owner of Louise's mortal form was horrible to Adam by talking down to him and treating him like a prop and a stranger. Because now that Louise isn't Louise, her son is little more than a prop to trick, distract and obsessively keep David by her side.

BEST: Kristen, Evil

With her husband leading tourists up a mountain in some far-flung locale and the forces of darkness literally knocking on her front door, Kristen somehow still finds the time and energy to be a loving, protective presence to Lynn, Lila, Lexis and Laura — her four (!) young daughters. (But it's exhausting, so don't begrudge her the occasional margarita-in-a-can.)

BEST: Linda, Lucifer

At first, being the mother of a Nephilim was a slice of Hell for poor Linda, when the angel-human hybrid was kidnapped by Dromos (in the former of Father Kinley). Luckily, in the first half of Season 5, Linda was free to dote on her and baby daddy Amenadiel's little one a lot more — as well as come face-to-face with the daughter she long ago gave up for adoption. No spoilers here, but in the back half of Season 5, Linda will find a frighteningly selfless way to demonstrate a mother's love, and prove what a strong parent she is.

BEST: Frog Lady, The Mandalorian

Frog Lady put up with a lot when hitching a ride aboard the Razor Crest to meet her husband on the estuary moon of Trask — what with the Child furtively snacking on her unfertilized spawn and all! But when Mando decided to put off repairs after crash-landing and catch a nap, she wasn't having it. No, she cleverly hacked into the Zero android unit's voice box to rouse Mando from his slumber and demand that he be true to their deal/his code. Her line was already at risk of extinction, and she wasn't going to let a lazy taxi driver be its end!

WORST: Liz, The Blacklist

Even though she's got a young daughter at home, Liz sure seems to make a lot of decisions that don't prioritize Agnes one bit — for example, becoming a fugitive for weeks (with Agnes in tow!) after a botched attempt on Raymond Reddington's life, forcing Agnes to spend a whole lotta time in foreign places with caretakers she barely knows. To Liz's credit, Agnes seems to roll with the punches quite well for a kid... but how about a little stability, eh?

BEST: Alex, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

Of all the TV moms Lauren Graham has played, Alex Morrow might be the most altruistic. Heartbroken for her son after his dismissal from the joyless Mighty Ducks, Alex has contended with the grumpy Gordon Bombay, condescending school moms and her own nonexistent hockey knowledge to create a new team where Evan can simply have fun on the ice. Gordon might come up with the good plays, but the Don't Bothers would be nothing without Alex's big heart and bottomless optimism.

BEST: Tina, The Neighborhood

Not any mom would front you the down payment for your very first house — but Tina's not just any mom. And she's always there when Malcolm and Marty need her most, even if it's just a home-cooked meal or freshly folded laundry they desire.

BEST: Blanca, Pose

No, she's not a biological mother, per se, but it's hard to find a more tender and loving maternal figure on TV than Blanca, who acts as a house mother to her young LGBTQ charges. Blanca has pulled kids off the streets and given them direction, gotten them off drugs and hit them with tough love when they needed it. But most of all, she's been a source of inspiration and support for outcasts who never got that from their own families — so we're not hesitating to give her a perfect "10" in the mother category.

WORST: Alexis, Dynasty

We're not saying Alexis doesn't (at least usually) have her children's best interest at heart, but the legendary scheme queen will always look out for No. 1 when the going gets tough. Sure, she's come a long way since her days of pool-fighting with Fallon, but unlike her carousel of faces, Alexis' true nature will never change.

BEST: Alma, The Queen's Gambit

Was Beth Harmon's adoptive mom perfect? Oh, hell no. In fact, at first she was only a smidgen more parental than her good-for-nothing, soon-to-bail husband Alston. But once it was just Beth and her — and more so upon appreciating her daughter's status as a cash cow chess prodigy — Alma stepped up into the role of momager and head cheerleader, tagging along on every glam whistle stop (and sure to hit every bar in their path).

BEST: Cissy, Snowfall

Cissy's dedication and love as a mother doesn't start and stop at her willingness to create and run businesses in which to funnel Franklin's dirty drug money. She also shares a deep bond with him because while his father Alton battled addiction demons, Cissy raised Franklin alone. It's that understanding that they are two like-minded souls against the world that has helped sustain them and strengthen their connection over the years.

BEST: Lois, Superman & Lois

The CW series gave us something we had yet to see on screen: Lois Lane as the mother of twin boys with plenty of teenage problems. In dealing with her sons' adolescent angst, social anxieties and newbie superpowers, Lois has been nothing but caring, both supporting her boys and nudging them in the right direction when needed. This intrepid reporter is an equally fierce mom.

WORST: Megan, Generation

Martha Plimpton's Megan is close-minded and homophobic (need we say more?), refusing to accept her own son Nathan's bisexuality. And don't get her started on gender identity ("There was a time when people were just normal!"). Her ideologies could not be any more upside-down, which does nothing but alienate and frustrate her kids. Plus, her icy exterior and hateful personality don't scream "warm and loving parent."

BEST: Beth, This Is Us

She has some stiff competition from her mother-in-law Rebecca, but Beth's graceful, resilient brand of motherhood puts her in a class by herself. She's dealt with some major curveballs across five seasons — the sudden arrival of Randall's birth father William; taking on Deja as an adopted daughter — but she's handled all of it with a steady blend of wisdom, humor and unconditional love. Plus, she's opening up a dance studio, so she's not neglecting her own creative spirit.

BEST: Mary, Young Sheldon

She may value faith over science, but Sheldon's mom always has his best interests at heart. Take, for instance, when she agreed to let the boy genius begin his undergraduate studies at age 11, despite her own qualms about him growing up too fast. She even accompanied him on his first day at East Texas Tech.

WORST: Penelope Blossom, Riverdale

To be honest, most parents on Riverdale are pretty awful, but even by that standard, Cheryl's mom is an especially twisted standout. Cold, cruel and conniving, Penelope has subjected Cheryl to a frightening torrent of verbal and psychological abuse while disapproving of her sexuality and keeping her cloistered inside the family's Gothic estate. (Oh, and did we mention she's a mass murderer? But hey, that's not unique among Riverdale parents, either.)
