Cancellation Body Count: Which Recently Axed Show Will You Miss The Most? Vote In Our Poll!
The broadcast networks' fall schedules are out — and a lot of big names are missing.
Earlier this month, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox all rolled out their primetime lineups for next season, and in doing so, they dropped the cancellation axe on a dozen shows, including several beloved dramas and comedies. NBC cancelled five shows to make room for their NBA coverage next season, while CBS axed six shows in favor of new series like Donnie Wahlberg's Blue Bloods offshoot Boston Blue. (For the record, The CW hasn't announced its fall schedule yet, so we're setting them aside for now.)
The dust may have settled on the cancellation blitz, but we're still mourning the loss of so many shows... and we're sure you are, too. We want to know which shows you'll be missing the most: Read on to get the full rundown on which shows have been cancelled in the past few weeks (you can always consult our handy Renewal Scorecard as well), and then vote in our poll below to let us know which cancellations are hitting you the hardest. Plus, feel free to vent your frustrations in the comments below — that's what they're there for, after all.
(Note: We didn't include Fox's 9-1-1: Lone Star and ABC's The Conners here, since their final seasons were announced months ago. But we'll miss them, too!)
12. The Equalizer (CBS)
The Queen Latifah-led procedural got the axe in May after five seasons. The series finale aired on May 4.
Queen Latifah paid tribute to the show on social media following the cancellation: "The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal."
11. FBI: International (CBS)
CBS cancelled the FBI spinoff, along with sister show FBI: Most Wanted, back in March after four seasons. The original FBI will return next season, though, along with new spinoff CIA, starring Tom Ellis.
The International cast included original cast members Vinessa Vidotto, Carter Redwood and Green the dog, plus Eva-Jane Willis, Christina Wolfe and Jesse Lee Soffer. The series finale is set to air next Tuesday, May 20 at 9/8c.
10. FBI: Most Wanted (CBS)
This FBI spinoff starring Dylan McDermott also got the chop in March, along with FBI: International. It ran for six seasons, with the series finale set for next Tuesday, May 20 at 10/9c. In addition to McDermott, the cast included Roxy Sternberg, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Edwin Hodge and FBI transplant Shantel VanSanten.
Regarding the dual FBI cancellations, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said "we have to be fiscally responsible, and ultimately those deals and the shows just weren't penciling out for us for an economic perspective."
9. Found (NBC)
The missing persons drama starring Shanola Hampton and Mark-Paul Gosselaar was cancelled in May after two seasons. The Season 2 finale — which aired this Thursday — will now serve as a series finale.
8. The Irrational (NBC)
It was two seasons and out for this crime drama, starring Jesse L. Martin as human behavior expert Dr. Alec Mercer: NBC axed it in May. Season 2 wrapped up back in March.
7. Lopez vs. Lopez (NBC)
In May, NBC cancelled the family sitcom starring stand-up comic George Lopez and his real-life daughter Mayan after three seasons. The Season 3 finale aired back in February.
6. Night Court (NBC)
NBC rendered a verdict on the courtroom comedy in May, cancelling it after three seasons. The sequel series starred Melissa Rauch as Judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the original Night Court's Harry Stone, with John Larroquette returning as attorney Dan Fielding. The cast also included Lacretta, Nyambi Nyambi and Wendie Malick.
The May 6 season finale — featuring a Big Bang reunion with Rauch and guest star Simon Helberg — will now serve as a series finale.
5. Poppa's House (CBS)
The freshman sitcom starring father-and-son duo Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. didn't make it to Season 2: CBS cancelled it in April. It wrapped up its one and only season later that month.
"Creating Poppa's House was such a beautiful journey. My heart is full as I say thank you to every single person who made Poppa's House such a meaningful experience," Wayans Sr. shared on social media.
4. Rescue: HI-Surf (Fox)
Baywatch enjoyed a long (slow-motion) run in syndication, but this Hawaii-set lifeguard drama didn't fare as well, with Fox dropping the axe in May after just one season. The cast included Robbie Magasiva, Arielle Kebbel, Adam Demos, Kekoa Scott Kekumano, Zoe Cipres and Alex Aiono. Season 1 wrapped up in March.
"It certainly wasn't the locale or the budget" that led to the cancellation, Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade later said. "It just didn't quite grab the audience."
3. Suits LA (NBC)
It's case closed for the Suits spinoff, with NBC cancelling it in May after one season. Stephen Amell starred as L.A. attorney Ted Black, joined by cast members Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis and Bryan Greenberg. (Suits veterans Gabriel Macht and Rick Hoffman also made guest appearances.)
The series finale airs this Sunday, May 18 at 9/8c.
2. The Summit (CBS)
The grueling reality competition, with contestants attempting to climb a mountain, didn't make it much further than base camp. CBS cancelled it in April after just one season, which wrapped up last December.
1. S.W.A.T. (CBS)
This time, it's for real (we think): The procedural starring Shemar Moore was cancelled for good back in March after eight seasons — and two previous last-minute saves following cancellations.
"It's heartbreaking news," showrunner Andrew Dettman said in a statement, "primarily because it's been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew to put out a show that we've always been proud of."
The two-hour series finale — barring any more last-minute saves — airs this Friday, May 16 at 9/8c.
