Dancing With The Stars Recap: Who Went Home In Week 2's Double Elimination?

Could dance lightning strike in the same, animal-obsessed family twice?

From the jive that Robert Irwin and Witney Carson turned in at the end of Dancing With the Stars' Season 34 premiere last week, the answer is: a definite Maybe! The 21-year-old son of famed "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin moved with a fluidity, vigor and enthusiasm that earned him a 15 out of 20 possible points, tying The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Whitney Leavitt for the night's top score.

Longtime fans will remember that Robert's sister, Bindi Irwin, took home the Mirrorball trophy in Season 21. Perhaps all that wildlife wrangling made the siblings graceful and light on their feet? This week's episode (theme: one-hit wonders) made it seem so: Robert did so well!

Also of note: After having to miss the premiere because of illness, Carrie Ann Inaba was back at the judges' table for this week's competition. The scores were back to being out of 30, the vibes were high — keep scrolling to see which two couples got eliminated this week, then hit the comments with your thoughts!

SAFE: Jen Affleck and Jan Ravnik

DANCE STYLE: Quickstep (to "Take on Me" by A-ha)

I kept waiting for this one to fall apart, and it didn't! Jen kept her energy up, her body connected to her partner and her shoulder down (enough) and managed to look like she was enjoying herself the whole time. Will I bring up the fact that this woman gave birth weeks ago every single recap? I might, because she did, and that is NO JOKE.

JUDGES' SCORE: 22 out of 30

SAFE: Hilaria Baldwin and Gleb Savchenko

DANCE STYLE: Tango (to "What Is Love" by Haddaway)

Hilaria's dance background served her well this week, because her frame and arms looked gorgeous the whole time, even when it seemed that she was hurrying to keep up with the steps. But her baseline is so high that, unless she truly has no supporters out there, I don't expect her to go home for several weeks.

JUDGES' SCORE: 21 out of 30

SAFE: Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa

DANCE STYLE: Jive (to "Maniac" by Michael Sembello)

This is what I was hoping for last week: a routine that makes excellent use of the unique combination of strength and fluidity that gymnasts like Jordan train their entire lives to build. From her gorgeous control on that body roll to how she performed that leap over Ezra and popped up into the flicks as though she's been doing it for years, I loved every minute.

JUDGES' SCORE: 22 out of 30

SAFE: Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy

DANCE STYLE: Jive (to "Mambo No. 5" by Lou Bega)

While Alix's starting pose was fierce and that final dip was satisfyingly dramatic, her side-by-side flicks and such were tentative at best and out-of-sync at worst. Still, those long legs and graceful arms go a long way on the parquet, and — as Derek said, that was a tough number — so I wouldn't count her out anytime soon.

JUDGES' SCORE: 21 out of 30

SAFE: Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach

DANCE STYLE: Samba (to "Macarena" by Los Del Rio)

While I don't think Dylan fully mastered the down-bounce necessary to sell this style of dance, and while he sometimes was a little too overtly looking to Daniella to stay on top of the choreo, that middle part with the whisk was nice.

JUDGES' SCORE: 20 out of 30

SAFE: Danielle Fishel and Pasha Pashkov

DANCE STYLE: Cha-Cha (to the 'Rhythm of the Night' by Corona)

An injury on Week 2? Oof. I felt for Danielle, who must've been sporting pancake-thick body makeup in order for us not to see all of that bruising up the back of her leg. There were definitely some bright spots in this routine — that cartwheel looked a lot stronger than I expected, for instance — but I'm with Carrie Ann: Danielle's gotta get out of her head and into the movement, particularly when she hits snags like that end-of-number, through-the-legs hiccup.

JUDGES' SCORE: 19 out of 30

SAFE: Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten

DANCE STYLE: Jive (to "Hey Mickey" by Toni Basil)

Props to Elaine, who seemed really into the cheerleader theme this week and whose energy was accordingly rah-rah! for her entire routine. But Alan's choreography highlighted areas where she's not super strong (those spins were a little shaky, those arms were a little flappy), making it feel like she was being pulled through the moves rather than hitting them with authority.

JUDGES' SCORE: 21 out of 30

SAFE: Scott Hoying and Rylee Arnold

DANCE STYLE: Cha-cha (to "Blue (Ba Da Bee)" by Eiffel 65)

I was impressed by how sharply Scott hit his moves — all that practice paid off! — and how much more comfortable he seemed this week. If he's improved this much from Week 1, he could prove to be one of those Ilona Maher-type inspirational competitors this season.

JUDGES' SCORE: 18 out of 30

SAFE: Robert Irwin and Witney Carson

DANCE STYLE: Tango (to "Move Your Feet" by Junior Senior)

I agree with Bruno: Robert did not need that robot dance break in the middle, and I would've liked to have seen him and Witney burning the floor a little more during the number — but only because he seems to be the real deal, and it's fun to see real deals really dance! Gorgeous overall, though.

JUDGES' SCORES: 22 out of 30

SAFE: Lauren Jauregui and Brandon Armstrong

DANCE STYLE: Foxtrot (to "Lovefool" by The Cardigans)

I really liked this dreamy routine, from the Cinderella-colored costumes to the way Lauren and Brandon seemed so locked into each other's gaze the whole time. The momentum faltered a bit in the middle, particularly when we went from rise-and-fall into the spin, but there really is something mesmerizing about the Fifth Harmony singer: She might be this season's dark horse.

JUDGES' SCORE: 21 out of 30

SAFE: Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas

DANCE STYLE: Cha-cha (to "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry)

Goodness gracious, the momentum that Whitney and Mark built — and then maintained — throughout this number was palpable. Her hip swivels were divine, her take-command attitude was perfection and that final split was meme-worthy.

JUDGES' SCORE: 22 of 30

SAFE: Andy Richter and Emma Slater

DANCE STYLE: Tango (to "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls)

Conan's former sidekick certainly made some progress this week. Did he move a lot? No. Did he sometimes seem to just be walking from one side of the floor to the other? Yes. But the fun he's having out there is infectious (those arm kisses and the wink were cute), and we've definitely see Men of a Certain Age doing a whole lot less in past seasons, no?

JUDGES' SCORE: 16 out of 30

ELIMINATED: Baron Davis and Britt Stewart

DANCE STYLE: Samba (to "Return of the Mack" by Mark Morrison)

A mistake in the first quarter of this number really took Baron out, which was unfortunate, because he never really regained his aplomb — though I applaud his Baby Houseman-like improved arm movements, for creativity's sake if nothing else. I once had a dance teacher say, "If you forget the moves, just keep moving!" which is so much stupidly harder to do than it sounds, and kudos to Baron for doing just that.

JUDGES' SCORES: 18 out of 30

ELIMINATED: Corey Feldman and Jenna Johnson

DANCE STYLE: Cha-cha (to "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-Lot)

Things I wondered during this number: a) Is Cory going to grab his crotch, Michael Jackson-style, every week? b) Can he not? c) Does Jenna feel extra tired after excitedly coaching him/counting it out/reminding him of steps in addition to performing at 150 percent to shore up her partner's deficiencies? Oh, you want to know about the dance? Eh, it happened.

JUDGES' SCORE: 15 out of 30
