26 TV Characters Who Memorably Lost Their Virginity

This week, Ghosts' Sasappis joined the pantheon of TV characters who notably lost their virginity on the small screen, and he's in very good company.

Below, TVLine looks back at others, from shows both recent and old, who memorably turned in their V-cards in unforgettable fashion. Naturally, teen dramas like Dawson's Creek, Heartstopper and The O.C. have mined this virgin territory for decades as their young couples took big steps in their romantic relationships. But surprisingly, the YA genre doesn't dominate our list. In fact, there are several series featuring adult men (Jamie Fraser! Jon Snow!) and women (Jane Villanueva! April Kepner!) who waited until they were older to have sex.

As you revisit the following first times, you'll find that they range the gamut from sweetly romantic (The Summer I Turned Pretty) to awkwardly funny (The Sex Lives of College Girls) to shockingly illicit (Gilmore Girls). You can even expect an instance of musical foreplay, courtesy of Glee.

Review TVLine's list of TV characters who memorably lost their virginity, with season and episode numbers included should you wish to revisit the special moments. Then hit the comments to share your favorites and any first times that didn't make the cut.

Donna, Beverly Hills, 90210

Sure, Brenda's prom night with Dylan is the first time that usually gets the most 90210 love. But we've got to give the edge to Donna's long-awaited (seven seasons in!) decision to forego saving herself for marriage and instead make a core memory with on-again, off-again boyfriend David right as she finished college. Donna Martin graduates, indeed. (Season 7, Episode 32) — Kimberly Roots

Sheldon and Amy, The Big Bang Theory

Fans waited five years for #Shamy to consummate their relationship, and it finally happened on Amy's birthday. Sheldon even skipped out on opening night of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens to be intimate. Now that's true love! Coitus would then become an annual tradition for the future Nobel Prize winners — though they were rudely interrupted the following year by the birth of Howard and Bernadette's daughter Halley. (Season 9, Episode 11) — Ryan Schwartz

Cory and Topanga, Boy Meets World

Our favorite TGIF couple didn't have sex until they were married — and Cory made sure that everyone (and we mean everyone) knew it! Just one week before they said "I do," Cory stood in the middle of the Pennbrook student union and yelled, "Let me touch something!" When Cory and Topanga were finally alone, the titular Boy was positively giddy. "This is so great!" he proclaimed. "I wish Shawn was here!" (Heh!) They'd ultimately spend their wedding night in jail — long story! — but they consummated the marriage soon after on an island getaway. (Season 7, Episode 8) — Ryan Schwartz

Buffy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

When Buffy slept with Angel, it was a major rite of passage not only for the titular character, but also a turning point for the show. The act of love enacted an old curse that caused Angel to lose his soul and turn from lover to killer, forever altering the trajectory of the series. And poor Buffy learned the hard way just how big of a jerk a guy can become after sex. (Season 2, Episode 13) — Vlada Gelman

Joey, Dawson's Creek

When the WB series first premiered, Joey probably hoped to lose her virginity to Dawson, for whom she secretly had feelings. But by Season 4, she was with Pacey, and their senior ski trip was a perfect opportunity to list all the reasons why she loved him as she started to undress him. "We were alone on a boat for three months and you understood, without a word, why I wasn't ready. Do you have to ask me now why I am?" Joey softly questioned her boyfriend. No, he most definitely did not. (Season 4, Episode 14) — Vlada Gelman

Natalie, The Facts of Life

Natalie and her boyfriend "Snake" (first red flag?) — played by Fast Times at Ridgemont High's "Mike Damone" (second red flag?) aka Robert Romanus — decided to commemorate their one-year dating anniversary by going all the way. The morning after, Natalie couldn't wait to share the news with Jo and Tootie. (Lisa Whelchel, who played Blair, refused to appear in the premarital sex-condoning episode due to her Christian beliefs.) Nat's BFFs offered mixed reactions, while Snake himself did the 1980s version of ghosting. Plot twist! Snake revealed himself to be quite moved by their intimacy, and even started talking about marriage, sparking a "hard pass" from Natalie. (Season 9, Episode 16) — Matt Webb Mitovich

Felicity, Felicity

Ben or Noel? How about Eli instead? The WB's achingly earnest college dramedy threw us a major curveball in Season 1 when Felicity lost her virginity not to either guy in her famous love triangle, but to artist Eli, played by guest star Simon Rex. It was an unusually impulsive decision from Felicity that had major repercussions on her relationship with Noel, and we didn't see much of Eli after that... but we'll always have that rainy night in the art studio. (Season 1, Episode 16) — Dave Nemetz

Jon, Game of Thrones

"You swore some vows," Ygritte purred to the Night's Watch brother after she lured him into a cave by stealing his sword. "I want you to break 'em." Given that she was naked as the day she was born when she made the request, it was not surprising that he soon acquiesced. What was surprising? Supposed novice Jon's demonstrable skill south of The Wall, so to speak. (Season 3, Episode 5) — Kimberly Roots

Robin, General Hospital

In this cautionary tale wrapped up in an iconic love story, Robin Scorpio was the do-right daughter of superspies, whereas Stone Cates was a street rat in mob boss Sonny's employ. Robin's lawman uncle disapproved of the star-crossed affair, but the young heart wants what the young heart wants, and what Robin wanted was her first time to be with Stone. Though they were pretty responsible — she was on the pill, he tested negative for HIV — the decision to forego a condom would haunt them when Stone got sick and tested positive for HIV, which turned into a fatal case of AIDS. Robin, meanwhile, to this day lives with AIDS. (Aired March 23, 1995) — Matt Webb Mitovich

Sasappis, Ghosts

Sasappis waited longer than anyone on this list to have sex: After his premature death, he remained a virgin... for 500-plus years in the afterlife! But that all changed recently when the ghost met fellow spirit Joan and finally did the deed with his new girlfriend. And judging by his gleeful smile, his first time was definitely worth the extremely lengthy wait. (Season 4, Episode 21) — Vlada Gelman

Rory, Gilmore Girls

Rory had a habit of making questionable decisions in Gilmore's season finales — kissing Jess at Sookie's wedding, dropping out of Yale — but her choice to sleep with ex-boyfriend Dean in the Season 4 ender was especially shocking. Dean and Rory had long been circling some unresolved feelings for each other, but at the time that Rory lost her virginity to him, Dean was now married (albeit unhappily) to Lindsay. Even worse, when Lorelai correctly labeled their tryst as cheating, Rory countered by calling Dean "my Dean" and stormed off. The reality of her and Dean's affair would hit Rory more fully at the top of Season 5, but it was a long and confusing summer for Gilmore fans everywhere. (Season 4, Episode 22) — Rebecca Luther

Finn, Glee

Finn was one of three characters, along with Rachel and Emma, who intended to lose their virginities during the "Power of Madonna" episode in Season 1. Naturally, because it's Glee, all three characters (along with respective bedroom partners Santana, Jesse and Will) engaged in a dream sequence-esque performance of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" as this show's version of foreplay — and later in the episode, it was revealed that Finn was the only member of that trio to actually go through with having sex for the first time. (Season 1, Episode 15) — Rebecca Luther

April, Grey's Anatomy

The innocent intern thought that she finally had it all figured out. "When something feels really, really good," she theorized during a make-out session with Jackson, "it can't be bad, can it?" Made sense to us. But no sooner had she thrown caution to the wind and "played doctor" with her fellow surgical resident than — oh, God — she remembered that there was another man in her life. "And now," she lamented, "Jesus hates me." (Season 8, Episode 21) — Charlie Mason

Nick and Charlie, Heartstopper

As devoted to one another as the teenage boyfriends were the night of their first time, we'd never say that they had merely had sex; the sweethearts had definitely made love. And yes, Nick, it still counted even if it was just touching. But in case it somehow didn't, Charlie and Nick went the all the way just an episode later, with the former even putting so much trust in his beau that he did so without his shirt on. Swoon. (Season 3, Episode 7) — Charlie Mason

Jane, Jane the Virgin

After two-plus seasons and a baby (with Rafael) and a wedding (to Michael), Jane finally had sex with her new husband once he recovered from a gunshot wound. (Oh, how we miss your telenovela twists, Jane the Virgin.) Alas, the couple's first time didn't exactly live up to the hype, with Jane later confessing to her friend that she faked her orgasm. Following some hilarious trial and error involving lingerie and "Sexy N' Wild Gel" ("It feels like wasabi down there!" Jane exclaimed), the pair found their rhythm, and the show's title became a misnomer. (Season 3, Episode 3) — Vlada Gelman

Fiji, Midnight, Texas

When the demon Colcannar announced his intention to deflower the town's resident witch, Fiji's secret was out: A fatal incident in her teen years (she accidentally killed her boyfriend when they tried to have sex) had scared her away from intimacy ever since. But with some gentle coaxing from Bobo, Fiji agreed to have him punch her V-card, unleashing a wave of mystical energy that ultimately helped her friends defeat the demon. We love it when a plan comes together. (Season 1, Episode 10) — Kimberly Roots

Seth and Summer, The O.C.

The couple's spur-of-the-moment first time started off sweet ("Hello, sunshine," Super Furry Animals crooned as Summer took off her top in front of an awed Seth), but it was far from perfect. "I was like a fish flopping around on dry land. Ryan, I was Nemo, and I just wanted to go home," Seth shared with his buddy. Once Summer confessed that nerdy Seth wasn't the only virgin in the room, all the awkwardness started to make sense. After rushing through such a big moment for the both of them, the pair sweetly decided to slow down and embrace romance. (Season 1, Episode 19) — Vlada Gelman

Jamie, Outlander

The strapping highlander had zero clue what to do when he was forced to marry Claire — and it showed. But her gentle tutelage on their wedding night brought out his natural, er, talents. To be fair, Jamie wasn't wholly a novice to nookie: As he put it, "I said I was a virgin, not a monk. If I need guidance, I'll ask." (Season 1, Episode 7) — Kimberly Roots

Kacey, The Sex Lives of College Girls

When a character loses their virginity, it's often, understandably, played for drama, but the Max comedy also got plenty of laughs out of Kacey's attempt to turn in her V-card. In true perfectionist, overachiever fashion, Kacey outfitted her bedroom with twinkle lights, a print of a sunset ("I always imagined I'd lose my virginity at magic hour," she explained) and a curated playlist. But all the pressure got to Kacey's boyfriend Cooper, who confessed that he wasn't ready to lose her virginity. Kacey found that admission sweet, and the couple eventually sealed the deal without any decorations or songs from an animated movie. (Season 3, Episode 9) — Vlada Gelman

Belly, The Summer I Turned Pretty

When it comes to fictional first times, it doesn't get much more idyllic and dreamy than Belly and Conrad's cozy night by the fireplace after an evening of frolicking in the snow. With the flickering flames glowing behind the couple and the sounds of Des'ree's "Kissing You" playing over the scene, the tender and sweet moment felt like something that was plucked straight out of Belly's diary. (Season 2, Episode 2) — Vlada Gelman

Hoyt and Jessica, True Blood

HBO's vampire drama prided itself on delivering head-turning sex scenes — and we do mean that literally — but every so often, it also told genuinely sweet stories about the physical act of love. Look no further than Hoyt and Jessica, whose mutual discovery of one another's virginity only added to the innocence of their relationship. ("Just because I'm a vampire, you think I'm a slut?" she joked.) After a cute, honest conversation about their "excuses" for still being virgins, they eventually made love to the tune of Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love." ... Get it? Because Jessica's a vampire. (Season 2, Episode 7) — Andy Swift
