Outlander Prequel Blood Of My Blood Announces Double-Episode Series Premiere, Releases New Sneak Peeks — Here's Everything We Know So Far

Starz isn't wasting time: It wants you to get quickly, deeply immersed in its first Outlander spinoff, Blood of my Blood.

To that end, in conjunction with its San Diego Comic-Con panels Saturday, the network announced that the prequel series will have a double-episode premiere on Friday, Aug. 8 (9/8c).

The historical drama will center on the parents of Outlander's central pair: Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp Fraser. The action will be split between England during World War I and the Scottish Highlands during the 18th century.

Starz also released two new sneak peeks at the show: a meet-up between Jamie's parents Brian and Ellen (played by Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater, respectively) and a car ride through the country with Henry and Julia (Jeremy Irvine and Hermione Corfield, respectively).

Outlander was based on Diana Gabaldon's series of novels, but Blood of My Blood is charting new territory by chronicling relationships fleetingly referred to in the books. The Outlander prequel will focus on Jamie's parents Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, and Claire's parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp. Per the logline: "The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie's parents in the early 18th-century Scottish Highlands and Claire's parents in World War I England."

Jamie's parents Ellen and Brian are played by Harriet Slater (Pennyworth) and Jamie Roy (Condor's Nest), respectively. Claire's folks Julia and Henry are played by Hermione Corfield (We Hunt Together) and Jeremy Irvine (Treadstone), respectively.

The cast also includes Rory Alexander, Séamus McLean Ross, Sam Retford, Sally Messham, Sadhbh Malin, Conor MacNeill and Tony Curran.

As of now, no Outlander cast members are expected to appear in Blood of My Blood.

There are, however, a bunch of names that will be familiar to fans of the original series. You'll meet younger versions of Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Colum and Dougal MacKenzie, Mrs. Fitz, Jocasta Cameron and Ned Gowan, among others.

You do not need to have watched Outlander to understand its spinoff (though it canna hurt).

Though Outlander author Diana Gabladon has referenced Jamie and Claire's relatives in many of her novels, there is no one book on which Blood of My Blood is based.

The series will premiere with two episodes on Friday, Aug. 8, at 9/8c.

All episodes of the prequel will air on Starz.

Season 1 consists of 10 episodes.
