Station 19: Five Things We Need To Happen In Short Final Season

We were right there with Station 19 leading lady Jaina Lee Ortiz when, following the Grey's Anatomy spinoff's surprise cancellation, she Instagrammed that she was "still processing this." As a matter of fact, we're still right there with her and probably will be through the series' finale. Maybe even beyond!

Before the axe fell on the network's top-rated drama — yes, it even bested Grey's in 2022-23 — we'd been looking forward to Season 7, which kicks off on Thursday, March 14 (at 10/9c). In the wake of Krista Vernoff's exit as showrunner, it is going to be the first with Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige at the helm, and we'd been and technically still are eager to see what they have in store. Plus, with only 10 episodes planned, the action is sure to be even faster and more furious than usual.

Now we're almost loath to see Season 7 start, as its beginning will only hasten Station 19's end. To distract ourselves from the goodbyes we'll soon be reluctantly saying, we've compiled a list of the things that have to happen before we leave the firehouse for the last time. If our wishes are granted... Well, it'll still be a bummer that the show is over, but maybe we'll sulk less. Take a look below, then hit the comments with the twists that you want to add to the list.

4. All Fired Up

Throughout the series' entire run, embattled Andy has wanted one thing more than any other: to become Station 19's captain. Since in the Season 6 finale (recapped here), Ross officially gave Herrera the title that she so richly deserved, we want to see Pruitt's daughter not only take on but thrive in the role for which she has worked so hard.

3. Return Engagement

Since being a firefighter is never going to become any less dangerous, why not have family man Ben, in his determination not to follow ill-fated Dean to the grave, pick up his medical career where it left off on Grey's Anatomy? That way, he could resume working with wife Bailey on the mother ship.

2. Break Time

Assuming Jack survives the blow to the head that he took in Season 6's ender, can we let him get lucky, like, just once? Like really lucky. Give him a nice love interest — maybe Vic, since she and Theo are done-done — forge a tight relationship with his biosis and, better yet, finally feel like a real, integral and wanted part of a family.

1. … and Baby Makes Three

Perhaps Jack could be godfather to the baby that the show has got to give Maya and Carina. After all that the marrieds have gone through, not just to conceive but even to stay together, they need to get a happy ending. Would it be too convenient for them to adopt the newborn that waitress Nanette wanted to give up?

Old Flames

Having come thisclose to losing the love of his life in Season 6's finale, Sullivan isn't about to take any more chances. Let him slip a ring on Natasha's finger, thus making their reunion extra official, and turn the firehouse into a chapel to give not only the star-crossed sweethearts but the whole show an especially happy ending.
