The Boys: Everything We Know About The Final Season

The end is getting closer for The Boys.

On June 11, 2024, showrunner Eric Kripke announced on Instagram that the hugely popular Prime Video comic book series would conclude with the fifth season.

"Season 5 will be the Final Season!" Kripke wrote. "Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax."

"The truth is we knew that it was going to be a five-season story for years now," Kripke told TVLine shortly after the announcement. "I mean, probably since writing the beginning of Season 3, we knew, and so we were already laying down track that was always heading in this direction. Honestly, [Amazon has] been great about letting us end it on our own terms. I'm really grateful."

While we're still a looong way off from getting eyes on the farewell run, it's never too early to gather all the intel that we have on the show's swan song. (If you need a refresher on how Season 4 concluded, may we suggest our plethora of post-mortem interviews about that death, that kiss, that surprise return, that Ashley twist and much more?)

Read on to find out when the series will return for Season 5, who's coming back (and who's not), and whether another Supernatural vet will make an appearance before The Boys wraps.

7. When Does Filming Begin?

Production on the final season got underway in Toronto, Canada, on Nov. 25, 2024. Laz Alonso, who plays Mother's Milk, shared a photo on Instagram of a cast dinner to mark the occasion.

On Dec. 4, Kripke posted the following photo of himself alongside stars Chace Crawford (The Deep), Antony Starr (Homelander) and Nathan Mitchell (Black Noir), with the caption, "They saved me. They saved me in every way a man can be saved. Feast your eyes on the first #Season5 #BTS pic!"

On Feb. 18, 2025, star Jack Quaid (aka Hughie) shared on Instagram that filming was going...well, bloody great:

On Feb. 22, 2025, Karl Urban (aka Butcher) shared a photo with the caption, "Oi ...I'm on me way
Season 5"

6. What Is the Title of the Season Premiere?

Kripke shared on Instagram the title page for the Season 5 opener, which reveals that the episode is called "Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite," and was written by Paul Grellong and directed by Phil Sgriccia.

5. When Will Season 5 Be Released?

Given the extensive amount of time it takes to complete post-production on the special effects-heavy series, and based on the show's previous rollout schedule, it stands to reason that we probably won't get eyes on Season 5 before 2026.

4. Who Will Be Back for Season 5?

Jensen Ackles, who plays supe Soldier Boy, will return as a series regular for the show's swan song. In the Season 4 finale's mid-credits scene, Homelander discovered that his biological father is still alive (but was cryogenically frozen).

Unfortunately, Claudia Doumit's Vice President-elect Victoria Neuman was killed by Butcher in the Season 4 finale and is unlikely to be back. But this is The Boys, where crazier things have happened than an actor somehow returning after their character has been killed off, so...

The surviving cast members of the Season 4 ensemble include Karl Urban (Butcher), Jack Quaid (Hughie), Antony Starr (Homelander), Erin Moriarty (Annie/Starlight), Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Laz Alonso (Mother's Milk), Chace Crawford (The Deep), Tomer Capone (Frenchie), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko), Colby Minifie (Ashley), Nathan Mitchell (Black Noir) and Cameron Crovetti (Ryan). New additions Susan Heyward (Sister Sage), Valorie Curry (Firecracker) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Kessler) also made it to the end of the season, but have not been officially confirmed as returning for the final run.

3. Who Is Joining the Show?

Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer) has boarded the Prime Video drama as a series regular. Details about his character are being kept under wraps.

Additionally, Mason Dye (Stranger Things) will guest-star during Season 5 as Bombsight, a supe who was mentioned in Season 4 as having starred in the 1950s Vought film The Curse of Fu Manchu, our sister site Variety reports.

2. Who Will Jared Padalecki Play?

On Feb. 26, 2025, Prime Video confirmed that Supernatural vets Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will appear during The Boys' final season in undisclosed roles, sharing scenes with their former co-star Jensen Ackles.

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke has been vocal about his desire to get Padalecki on the Prime Video drama, calling his former leading man "the Pokémon I haven't collected yet." Thus far, Ackles, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jim Beaver, Rob Benedict and Christian Keyes are among the Supernatural vets to pop up on the comic book series, while Alexander Calvert recurred on the spinoff Gen V.

Bringing Padalecki onto the show is a matter of "finding the right role. Look, I want to. I mean, even if it's just for a guest shot," Kripke told TVLine.

Padalecki, meanwhile, recalled getting a call from Kripke following the cancellation of his CW drama Walker. "He's like, 'Hey, dude, a) so sorry about Walker. I know how much you loved it and great show. Would you be interested in coming to play up in Toronto [where The Boys shoots]?'" Padalecki shared with TVLine. "I was like, 'Absolutely. Just let me know if I have to get naked or not because I gotta start working out now.'"

1. What's Next After Season 5?

It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 that Ackles and Aya Cash (who plays Stormfront) will headline the prequel spinoff Vought Rising.

"It's a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought. We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V," executive producer Eric Kripke and Vought Rising showrunner/EP Paul Grellong said in a statement.

More imminently, a second season of the college-set spinoff Gen V is slated for 2025.

Spanish-language spinoff set in Mexico City is also in development.
