The Golden Bachelor: Meet The 23 Women Competing For Mel's Heart (And Yes, They're Almost All Over 60)

ABC has unveiled the women who'll be competing this season on The Golden Bachelor — and sorry to break it to you, Mel Owens, but almost all of them are over 60 years old.

Owens, the new star of the senior-focused Bachelor offshoot, got himself into hot water by revealing in a podcast interview that he asked the Golden Bachelor producers not to cast anyone age 60 or older because "if they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them." (He's 66, for the record.) Owens has since apologized for his "insensitive" comments, and thankfully, the show didn't listen to him, finding a bevy of vibrant, accomplished women north of age 60 who are looking to add another chapter to their love story.

The 23 women Mel will be choosing from include a former model, a yoga instructor, a vineyard owner, a casino VIP host — and even a 58-year-old! Owens, meanwhile, is a former NFL linebacker, playing nine seasons for the L.A. Rams before retiring and passing the bar to become a lawyer based in Orange County, California. (He's divorced, with two children.)

"Now, after several years as a devoted dad, Owens is ready to rediscover a love rooted in the simple joys of companionship — sharing life's everyday moments, making plans for the future, and growing stronger together as a couple," per the official synopsis. "As the Golden Bachelor, he's eager to meet someone who shares this vision and finally find that perfect teammate he's been waiting for in his golden years."
