The Mandalorian Quickcap: Let's Revisit What Happened In Season 1

This is the way... to quickly revisit everything that happened in Season 1 of The Mandalorian.

It's been close to a year since Disney+ returned us to that galaxy far, far away and introduced the Child aka "Baby Yoda." But much has happened since then — both in the Outer Rim and right here on good old planet Earth. So we don't blame you if you can't tell your lightsabers from your Darksaber, or your Jawas from your Tusken Raiders.

We would hate for you to go into Season 2 (premiering Friday, Oct. 30) feeling like the victim of a Jedi mind trick, so here is your hyperdrived "quickcap" of all episodes from The Mandalorian's freshman run. Give it a read before the new season premieres. Or, if you want more detail, check out our full Season 1 episode recaps, which are linked within as well.

What are you waiting for? Crack open a bottle of blue milk and get to remembering!

CHAPTER 1: The Mandalorian

Set five years after Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, lone bounty hunter Din Djarin — played by Pedro Pascal, and who from here on out shall be known as Mando — arrives at a cantina on Nevarro to turn in his latest catches to Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), his Bounty Hunter Guild handler. Karga directs Mando to meet with the Client for an "off the books" assignment. The Client (Werner Herzog) keeps the details vague but offers to pay Mando in Beskar steel, the sacred metal of Mando's people, if the target is brought back alive. Mando tracks the 50-year-old bounty to a desert planet and meets Kuiil (voiced by Nick Nolte), a farmer who guides Mando to its location. However, the area is heavily guarded, so Mando is forced to team up with IG-11, a bounty-hunting droid (voiced by Taika Waititi). After neutralizing all threats, the two discover a child of Yoda's species. When IG-11 attempt to kill the asset, Mando stops the droid with blaster fire to his bean. Read full recap here.

BABY TALK: Baby Yoda's lone moment in the premiere is nonetheless a standout, as Mando tugs back a blanket to reveal the most unexpected of bounties. Can anyone even remember what they thought would be in that levitating pram?

CHAPTER 2: The Child

With Baby Yoda in tow, Mando starts making his way back to his ship, but not before he is attacked by rival bounty hunters who are also tracking the Child. He disposes of the hunters, only to find his ship being stripped by a group of Jawas. After unsuccessfully trying to retrieve his parts, he returns to Kuiil, who arranges a meet between Mando and the Jawas. The diminutive creatures agree to return Mando's ship parts if he retrieves a mudhorn (think: giant rhinoceros) egg for them. The mudhorn proves to be too strong for Mando, but, just when all seems lost, Baby Yoda uses the Force to incapacitate the beast, allowing Mando to kill it and take the egg. The bounty hunter gives the egg to Jawas, fixes his ship and sets a course back to Nevarro. Read full recap here.

BABY TALK: The wee Child's handling of the mighty mudhorn is the kind of moment that would have made a theater crowd erupt in cheers, if this were a Star Wars movie.

CHAPTER 3: The Sin

Mando returns to Nevarro and delivers the Child to the Client, who pays him handsomely in Beskar steel. Mando heads to the underground Mandalorian lair, where the Armorer crafts him a new set of armor with the prized steel, designating the mudhorn as his signet in the process. But as Mando is about to leave for his next assignment, he is overtaken by guilt and returns to the Client's base to retrieve the Child. As the two are about to escape, they are ambushed by Greef Karga and a group of bounty hunters. After an intense firefight — and with more than a little assistance from a squadron of fellow Mandalorians — Mando and Baby Yoda are able to escape. Read full recap here.

BABY TALK: The Child's propensity to fidget with the Razor Crest's controls comes to the fore here, as it covets — and ultimately is gifted with — one lever's very shiny round knob.

CHAPTER 4: Sanctuary

Seeking sanctuary, Mando arrives on the forest planet Sorgan, where he meets former Rebel shock trooper Cara Dune (Gina Carano). The two agree to help the local fishermen defend their village from a group of raiders. As they prepare, Mando bonds with a widowed mother, revealing that in keeping with the Mandalorian code, he has not shown his face to anyone since he was a child. Dune and Mando are able to defeat the raiders, and Mando decides to leave Baby Yoda on the scarcely populated planet. However, after Dune kills a Guild bounty hunter who had tracked them to the planet, he realizes that the Child will only be safe in his hands and departs. Read full recap here.Mandalorian

BABY TALK: No fewer than three of the Child's very best moments take place in this episode, but you simply must give the iconic "Soup Sipping" the edge over "Frog Spitting" and "Razor Crest Radio Fiddling."

CHAPTER 5: The Gunslinger

After damaging his ship in a dogfight, Mando lands on Tatooine (!) for repairs. He heads to the local cantina to find work and meets aspiring bounty hunter Toro Calican (Jake Cannavale), who is tracking assassin Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). The two capture Shand, but the mercenary informs Calican of Mando's betrayal, revealing that his bounty is worth more than hers. Calican shoots Shand and takes Baby Yoda hostage, but Mando is able to kill Calican and save the Child. He uses Calican's money to pay for his repairs and leaves the desert planet. Meanwhile, back on Tatooine, a mysterious figure finds Shand's body.... Read full recap here.

BABY TALK: Left in the care of mechanic Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) while Mando tends to business, the Child's main bits of cuteness come from its refusal to lay low inside the ship.

CHAPTER 6: The Prisoner

Mando takes a job with a group of criminals to rescue one of their brothers from a space jail. The group infiltrates the prison but are detected by security, alerting the New Republic. The crew finds the brother but betrays Mando and leave him in one of the cells. Mando escapes, defeats each member of the crew (in a dazzling, dizzying sequence), and delivers the brother to the rendezvous point himself. Mando departs, but not before planting a tracking beacon on the brother, leading a squad of X-wings to blow up the base. Read full recap here.

BABY TALK: The Child's best moment capped a harrowing scene, in which the criminals' cohort, Zero the droid, found and was poised to do Zod knows what with the wee creature. The Child began using the Force to fend off Zero, and for a brief moment was astonished that he had blown it to smithereens — when in fact Mando had snuck up on the droid with his blaster.

CHAPTER 7: The Reckoning

Mando receives a message from Greef Karga that his town has been occupied by the Client. He implores Mando to return to Nevarro, kill the Client and free the village in return for clearing his name with the Guild. Mando recruits Cara Dune, Kuiil and a reprogrammed IG-11 for the mission. The team meets Karga and his associates but are attacked by flying creatures that injure Karga. Baby Yoda uses the Force to heal Karga, which leads him to kill his foot soldiers and confess that he was going to betray Mando to the Client. Having switched sides, Karga, Mando and Dune infiltrate the town while Kuiil and the Child return to the ship. The three meet with the Client but are attacked by Imperial warlord Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), who kills the Client. Gideon also sends scouts to capture the Child, which they do after killing Kuiil — and as we collectively weep for our kidnapped son. Read full recap here.

BABY TALK: An overprotective Child using the Force to choke Cara as she merely arm-wrestled Mando was pretty cute, but the moment where it eavesdropped on the two, by dangling upside-down, was its standout scene.

CHAPTER 8: Redemption

IG-11 rescues Baby Yoda from the scout troopers and travels back to the village, where it saves Mando, Greef Karga and Cara Dune from Moff Gideon. However, Mando is injured in the process. Karga and Dune escape with the Child while IG-11, after convincing Mando to let it remove his helmet, heals the bounty hunter. The two catch up with Karga and Dune and travel through the Mandalorian tunnels, where they find the remains of the dead Mandalorians who had helped Mando a few episodes earlier. As they try to escape down a lava river, they are ambushed by Gideon's remaining troops, so IG-11 sacrifices itself to allow the group to get away. Gideon arrives in a TIE fighter, but Mando is able to take the ship down using his new jetpack. Gideon survives the crash and saws himself himself from the wreckage... using the Darksaber! Mando and Baby Yoda leave Nevarro to find the Child's family while Dune and Karga stay behind. Read full recap here.

BABY TALK: In his most badass moment, the Child uses the Force to deflect a wall of fire unleashed by Flametroopers, and thereby roasted them in it. We have spoken.
