Ted Danson Reveals His Wife Mary Steenburgen Plays His New Love Interest In A Man On The Inside Season 2: 'It's Just Magical'

Ted Danson is falling in love again in the new season of A Man on the Inside — and in this case, he's had decades of practice.

Danson's real-life wife Mary Steenburgen joins the cast of his Netflix comedy in Season 2, and she's playing his new love interest, Danson revealed on the latest episode of his Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast.

"It's just magical. We're falling in love," Danson gushes. "I'm just head over heels, my character, in love with her, and to sit there on camera and look into your wife's eyes... And we're nauseatingly in love in private life, and to just disappear into her eyes in front of a camera is pretty astounding."

A Man on the Inside stars Danson as retired professor Charles, who works undercover for a local private eye after his wife's death. In Season 2 (set to debut later this year on Netflix), Charles goes undercover at a college and crosses path with Steenburgen's character Mona Margadoff, "a former musician who factors heavily into the latest case Charles is trying to solve," per the official description.

Being the star of the show, Danson felt an obligation to make his wife comfortable on set in Season 2, he admits: "I realized part of my job is to host my wife. I was here last year. I am this 'man on the inside.' And if she doesn't have a wonderful time, I'm an a–hole. And that's on me. And that's just my attitude."

Danson and Steenburgen met on the set of the movie Pontiac Moon in 1993 and got married in 1995, with Danson becoming stepfather to Steenburgen's two children Lily and Charlie. They've since acted together several times, including the 1996 NBC miniseries Gulliver's Travels, the 2004 film It Must Be Love and HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm.
