Abbott Elementary Scores Early Season 4 Renewal At ABC
Abbott Elementary has certainly made the grade: ABC has renewed the Emmy-winning comedy for a fourth season, just days after its Season 3 premiere, TVLine has learned.
Abbott co-star William Stanford Davis, who plays custodian Mr. Johnson, announced the news himself during ABC's panel at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Saturday.
Abbott Elementary stars Quinta Brunson (who also created the series) as Janine Teagues, a teacher at a cash-strapped Philadelphia elementary school. Tyler James Williams co-stars as Janine's fellow teacher (and slow-burn love interest) Gregory, with Sheryl Lee Ralph as veteran teacher Barbara, Janelle James as principal Ava and Lisa Ann Walter and Chris Perfetti as teachers Melissa and Jacob.
Brunson won the Emmy last month for best lead actress in a comedy series for Abbott's second season. Ralph took home the Emmy the previous year for best supporting actress in a comedy. Season 3 premiered on Wednesday after a 10-month break, with its double-episode premiere averaging 2.8 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating — which is right on par with its Season 2 averages.
