Bridgerton Star Nicola Coughlan: My Contract Requires A PG Version So My Parents Can Watch, Too
Bridgerton's steamiest Season 3 scenes will definitely be NSFW (not safe for work), but apparently they're also NSFNCP (not safe for Nicola Coughlan's parents).
The upcoming season of the Netflix series will follow Coughlan's Penelope and Luke Newton's Colin as they fight their feelings while falling hopelessly in love. And, according to the Julia Quinn novels on which the series is based, things will get pretty saucy. (Get a sneak peek.)
Coughlan's family, however, will be shielded from the most swoonworthy scenes by receiving a special PG cut of the season, the actress revealed on Thursday's episode of SiriusXM Hits 1.
"It's literally written into my contract," she said, according to The Independent. "People think I'm like saying it as a joke. I just don't want to. I grew up Irish Catholic. That's just not how we vibe."
Coughlan went on to confirm the naughty nature of Season 3, revealing that "we did break a piece of furniture" while filming a romantic scene.
The actress added, however, despite her mother being initially apprehensive about the series' abundant nudity, "Jonathan Bailey's lovely bottom" ultimately won her over just minutes into the first episode.
"She was like, 'What is this?'" Coughlan shared. "But then, now she thinks it's fantastic and really funny, and she keeps talking about bottoms."
Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1 (Episodes 1-4) will premiere on Thursday, May 16, followed by Part 2 (Episodes 5-8) on Thursday, June 13.
