Carrie TV Series From Mike Flanagan Officially A Go At Prime Video
Get the pig's blood ready: A Carrie series is officially happening at Prime Video.
The streamer on Thursday formally ordered a TV adaptation of Stephen King's 1974 novel, to be shepherded by horror auteur Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher).
Prime Video's take on Carrie is described as a "bold and timely reimagining" of the story of Carrie White, a misfit high schooler who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. "After her father's sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public high school, a bullying scandal that shatters her community and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers," the official synopsis reads.
Flanagan will serve as executive producer, writer and showrunner of Carrie, and he'll direct a handful of the show's eight episodes. Trevor Macy, Flanagan's longtime creative partner, will also exec-produce.
As for who will play Carrie's title character, a formal casting announcement has yet to be made, but Variety reported earlier this week that Summer H. Howell (Channel Zero, Cult of Chucky) is in negotiations to headline the series.
"Carrie is an iconic story that has withstood the test of time with continued cultural relevance," said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios. "With Mike Flanagan at the helm and the accomplished team assembled, including executive producer Trevor Macy, this provocative series is sure to captivate our global customers."
Carrie, King's first novel, became a best-seller that was adapted into the 1976 Brian De Palma film of the same name starring Sissy Spacek. A sequel titled The Rage: Carrie 2 released in 1999 starring Amy Irving, who reprised her role as sole survivor Sue Snell. A TV-movie remake came out in 2002, followed by another remake in 2013 starring Chloë Grace Moretz.
Flanagan is no stranger to the King universe. He previously adapted both Doctor Sleep (the sequel to The Shining) and Gerald's Game as movies. In 2022, it was announced that he was also making a TV series of The Dark Tower for Prime Video.
Carrie first went into development at the streamer back in October 2024.
