Citadel Season 2 Delayed As Amazon Puts Spinoffs On Hold

Citadel's next mission has been scrubbed for now.

Season 2 of the Prime Video spy series has been delayed, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with a planned fall 2025 premiere now pushed back to spring 2026. Also, all international spinoffs of Citadel have been put on hold at least until Season 2 of the flagship series debuts, "if not indefinitely."

The reason for the delay? Amazon MGM executives are reportedly "unhappy with what they have seen so far" of Citadel Season 2, per THR. (TVLine has reached out to Prime Video for comment.)

Citadel stars Game of Thrones veteran Richard Madden and Quantico's Priyanka Chopra as elite spy agents who had their memories wiped years ago after encountering a shadowy syndicate known as Manticore. Now they've been called back into action to take down Manticore, all while trying to piece together their former lives. The cast also includes Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville; Marvel movie directors Anthony and Joe Russo serve as executive producers.

Debuting in April 2023, Citadel became infamous for its massive budget, with a reported $300 million spent on the six-episode freshman season. It also drew mixed reviews from critics and didn't crack Nielsen's top 10 streaming charts until its final episode. Still, the series was renewed for a second season a month after it premiered. Amazon also ordered a slew of international spinoffs, including Italy's Citadel: Diana and India's Citadel: Honey Bunny, which both premiered last year. But again, those spinoffs are all on hold for now until Season 2 of the original Citadel is released.
