Clueless Sequel Series Starring Alicia Silverstone In The Works At Peacock
Did you really think they would try to make another Clueless TV show without Alicia Silverstone? As if!
Silverstone is attached to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in a sequel series to the classic 1995 teen comedy in development at Peacock, our sister site Variety reports. The show will serve as a follow-up to the Clueless film, catching up with Cher 30 years later.
There's no word yet if any of Silverstone's Clueless co-stars will join her in the new series. Brittany Murphy, who co-starred as gawky new kid Tai, sadly passed away in 2009. The original film cast also included Stacey Dash as Cher's best friend Dionne, Donald Faison as Dionne's boyfriend Murray, Breckin Meyer as skater dude Travis and Paul Rudd as Cher's eventual love interest Josh. Amy Heckerling, who directed the 1995 film, will serve as an executive producer on the series, with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, The O.C.) set to pen the script, along with Jordan Weiss (Freakier Friday).
If you're having a feeling of déjà Clue about all of this, it's understandable: A Riverdale-esque reboot of Clueless was in development back in 2019 that would've seen Dionne searching for her missing friend Cher, but that never made it to air. A TV adaptation of Clueless also aired on ABC and UPN in the late '90s, with Rachel Blanchard replacing Silverstone as Cher and Dash and Faison reprising their roles.
Silverstone recently co-starred in Netflix's The Baby-Sitters Club as Kristy's mom Elizabeth and headlined the '70s-set Paramount Network comedy American Woman, which was cancelled in 2018 after one season. Her other TV credits include American Horror Stories, Suburgatory and Miss Match.
