Countdown Among Two Shows Cancelled At Prime Video

The Countdown is over: The Jensen Ackles-led thriller has been cancelled after just one season at Prime Video, Deadline reports. Additionally, Butterfly, starring Daniel Dae Kim, will not return for more seasons.

Created by #OneChicago alum and FBI: International creator Derek Haas, Countdown was set in motion when an officer with the Department of Homeland Security (played by Milo Ventimiglia) was murdered in broad daylight. Special Agent in Charge Nathan Blythe (played by Euphoria's Eric Dane) promptly assembled task force "Hurricane," comprised of LAPD detective Mark Meachum (Supernatural vet Ackles), DEA badass Amber Oliveras (All Rise's Jessica Camacho), DHS intelligence offer Damon Drew (The Chosen's Jonathan Togo), LAPD gangs unit officer Lucas Finau (Young Rock's Uli Latukefu), and FBI agents Evan Shepherd (The Flash's Violett Beane) and Keyonte Bell (The Boys' Elliot Knight).

The Season 1 cast also included Bogdan Yasinski (Boch: Legacy) and Jonathan von Mering (The Pitt) as the villainous Borys Volchek and his henchman Adrej; Jonatha Togo (The Chosen) as Blythe's righthand man Damon Drew; and Merrick McCartha (All American) as District Attorney Grayson Valwell.

Interestingly, what many Countdown viewers surely assumed to be a season-long threat — the aforementioned Volchek and his plan to explode multiple bombs at an outdoor Los Angeles galleria — was resolved early in Episode 10 of 13. That was followed by a shiny-happy coda, a significant time jump, and then the launch of a brand-new case involving a plot to assassinate the governor of California and/or POTUS.

Countdown, which wrapped its run on Sept. 3, landed on Nielsen's weekly U.S. ranking of streaming originals in its second week of eligibility, with 409 million minutes viewed across the first four available episodes.
