Daytime Emmys Won't Air On A TV Network This Year – Find Out How To Watch (And Who's Hosting)

The Daytime Emmys are coming soon to a computer screen near you.

The annual awards show will not air on a traditional TV network this year, TVLine has learned, and will instead stream live at watch.theemmys.tv and via The Emmys app. This marks the first time in six years the Daytime Emmys won't air on TV, after wrapping up a five-year run on CBS.

Plus, Mario Lopez has been named the host of the 52nd annual ceremony, which takes place Friday, Oct. 17 in Pasadena, California. Lopez's hosting gig is part of an extensive collaboration between the Daytime Emmys and Access Hollywood, with the syndicated entertainment news show set to feature five nights of dedicated Daytime Emmys segments leading up to the ceremony, along with a post-show red carpet recap on Monday, Oct. 20.

First handed out in 1974, the Daytime Emmys began being televised in primetime in 1991, switching between CBS, ABC and NBC. But the ceremony moved to HLN in 2012 for two years and then did an online-only broadcast in 2014. It aired on Pop in 2015 but then went online-only again for the next three years, returning to CBS in 2020.

This year's Daytime Emmy nominees were announced in July, with CBS' The Young and the Restless leading the daytime drama field with 19 total nominations. The Drew Barrymore Show led all daytime talk shows with nine total nods, edging out The Kelly Clarkson Show with eight. (See the full list of nominees here.)
