Emmys 2025: Reba McEntire And Members Of Little Big Town Sing The Golden Girls Theme

Reba McEntire (Happy's Place) and Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman proved themselves both pals and confidants of The Golden Girls by singing the comedy's theme song on stage at the Emmys Sunday.

The trio of country stars gathered on a re-creation of the sitcom's kitchen set to mark the show's 40th anniversary with a performance of Andrew Gold's "Thank You For Being a Friend." Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to enjoy some cheesecake.

The Golden Girls premiered Sept. 14, 1985, and ran for seven seasons on NBC. It starred Bea Arthur as Dorothy, Betty White as Rose, Rue McClanahan as Blanche and Estelle Getty as Sophia. The four characters, all older women, shared a home in Miami; they often gathered in the kitchen to commiserate about their lives as they had some dessert.

Over the course of its run, The Golden Girls won 11 Emmys, including acting statues for each of the core four actresses.

McEntire, Schlapman and Fairchild's appearance was the second time in recent memory that the show's theme song was performed in tribute: In 2022, Cher covered the tune during NBC's Celebrating Betty White: America's Golden Girl, a special honoring White after her death at age 99.
