George Clooney's Good Night, And Good Luck Broadway Play To Stream On Prime Video: 'This Is A Form Of Resistance,' Star Says

If you missed CNN's one-night-only simulcast of George Clooney playing legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow, you're in Good Luck.

A live recording of the Broadway play Good Night, and Good Luck will be available to stream Friday, Oct. 3, on Prime Video and other digital platforms, Deadline reports. It originally aired on CNN in June.

Clooney stars in the production as broadcast journalist Murrow, "showcasing his legendary, history-altering, on-air showdown with Senator Joseph McCarthy," reads the official description. "As McCarthyism casts a shadow over America, Murrow and his news team choose to confront the growing tide of paranoia and propaganda, even if it means turning the federal government and a worried nation against them."

The 100-minute production had a brief, highly popular run at New York's Winter Garden Theatre earlier this year. Clooney directed the film, in which he played Murrow's producer, Fred Friendly. In the Broadway show, Friendly was played by Glenn Fleshler (True Detective). Clooney and Grant Heslov wrote both the movie and the play.

The play's cast also includes Clark Gregg (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Ilana Glazer (Broad City), Carter Hudson, Paul Gross, Christopher Denham, Fran Kraz, Mac Brandt, Will Dagger and Georgia Heers. The production was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Clooney for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.

Capturing the live performance required 27 carefully choreographed cameras. "When you see it," Clooney told Deadline, "we shot it like a movie, really elegant and beautiful. It was important to us to make sure that you got to see this as not just sticking a camera on the front seat of a play."

He added: "We were all very proud to do it because one of the things you got to see is, this is a form of resistance. This is the ability to talk about who we are, at our best. Murrow certainly was one of those people, us at our best."
