Heartstopper To End Nick And Charlie's Love Story With A Movie Instead Of A Full Season 4
From "hi" to "bye." Netflix on Tuesday announced that its beloved LGBTQ+ romance Heartstopper will conclude with a movie based on creator Alice Oseman's as-yet-unreleased sixth volume in her graphic-novel series.
Production is set to get underway this summer with Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice) taking over directing duties from Andy Newbery.
"I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story," Oseman said in a statement. "I'm so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans... for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion."
Per the official logline for the feature, "Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet.
"Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?"
We're sort of counting on it! This time around, series leads Kit Connor and Joe Locke not only reprise their roles of Nick and Charlie, respectively, but also serve as executive producers.
Are you relieved that Heartstopper will get a proper wrap-up? Or are you bummed that we won't be getting a full season?
