Jon Stewart Smashes Coffee Mug, Slices Hand Open During 'Bloody Good' Daily Show Monologue — WATCH

Jon Stewart wasn't about to let a little blood stop him from finishing Monday's episode of The Daily Show.

During an impassioned monologue about pharmaceutical industry subsidies, Stewart slammed a coffee mug down on his desk and shattered it, still holding several shards in his palm amid the wreckage. Moments later, the host noticed that he was bleeding. He looked down, inspected the damage and said, "I'll be going to the hospital soon."

But as the old saying goes, the show must go on, so Stewart held his hand below his desk and proceeded with his report for another three minutes.  It was at that point, during an applause break, that he held up his hand to reveal a napkin that was pooling with blood. The audience gasped, but Stewart assured them, "It's fine!"

When he returned from commercial break for an interview with Georgetown Law's Rupa Bhattacharyya, former Special Master of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, his index finger was bandaged but still bleeding. "Oh, wow, this thing's really coming out," he said. He then made light of his bloodied digit, explaining, "In the commercial break, I had a lightsaber battle with one of the crew members, and that's how that happened."

Ahead of air Monday, Stewart alluded to his accident on X, writing: "It's a bloody good episode...emphasis on bloody... I'm an idiot...."
