Last Week Tonight Clips Will Resume Posting To YouTube On Monday Mornings

HBO has reversed its decision to delay the posting of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver clips on YouTube until Thursdays, TVLine has learned. Next-day clips will be back in action all season long, starting with Sunday's Season 12 premiere, which hit YouTube Monday at 3 am ET.

The decision made in February 2024 was aimed at boosting viewership on the cabler's sibling streamer Max. "When Last Week Tonight with John Oliver premiered on HBO, the convenience of watching on Max did not exist, so YouTube allowed flexible viewing for the main story as well as promotional exposure," an HBO spokesperson said at the time. "We are now delaying that availability and hope those fans choose to watch the entire show on Max."

The network claims it saw no significant change in viewership behavior after it implemented the delay.

In the Season 12 premiere, "John Oliver discusses the first four weeks of Donald Trump's second term as president, the strategy behind some of the choices his administration has made and why it is indeed f–k time. You heard us: It's f–k time," reads the official description.
