Watch Dancing With The Stars' Emotional Tribute To Late Judge Len Goodman
A who's who of former Dancing With the Stars pros returned to the ballroom on Tuesday to honor franchise staple Len Goodman, who died earlier this year at age 78. And by the end of the performance, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
Kym Herjavec, Anna Trebunskaya, Karina Smirnoff, Edyta Sliwinska, Tony Dovolani, Louis van Amstel, Maks Chmerkovskiy and Mark Ballas were among the familiar faces who joined Derek and Julianne Hough, along with the current pros, on the dance floor. Together, they danced to Henry Mancini's "Moon River," part of a beautiful routine choreographed by Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson.
Goodman, who boasted years of his own ballroom dancing experience, served as head judge on both the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing and ABC's Dancing With the Stars since their inception. He appeared on the former series from 2004 through 2016, and on the latter from its premiere in 2005 through 2022, when he stepped down at the end of Season 31 to spend more time with his family.
The tribute opened with a look back at Goodman's illustrious career, complete with testimonials from just a few of the dancers who owe their careers to him. The emotional performance received a lengthy standing ovation, with judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tunioli left holding each other and sobbing during the applause.
Conspicuously absent from the tribute was Cheryl Burke, who spent a whopping 26 seasons on Dancing With the Stars, more than any other pro. So, why wasn't she dancing alongside her fellow vets?
"Unfortunately, I wasn't invited," Burke revealed in a Threads post on Oct. 19, shortly after news of Goodman's tribute was released. "However, I'll be there in spirit and can't wait to cheer my former colleagues on! Sending love and light to everyone."
